After conducting original research, we have found that millennials' challenges stem from a conflict between their desires and attainable goals. Our societal expectations have created tension for millennials who struggle to find ways to act like adults when financial pressures cause them to feel much more like children.
Inflation is the top problem Gen Z and Millennials name as the biggest they are facing today. Over-dependence and addiction to technology ranked second as the top problem among young people for the first time. However, racism and COVID-19 are still top concerns for these gens.
The New York Times cites that they've been called, “narcissistic, lazy, and indecisive. Millennials have been labeled the boomerang generation for the many unable or unwilling to leave their parents' home, or even more negatively, the Peter Pan generation because they supposedly won't grow up.”
Mental Health Issues. With all the challenges millennials face every single day – from financial to personal aspects, it is no wonder that they feel stressed out, anxious and depressed. A study found out that one in every 5 millennials struggle with depression.
Adult became adulting as a generation entered that period feeling somewhat unprepared, wanting to express that maturity means not only reaching a certain point in your life, but also attending to the concomitant tasks. Hence our Thursday-level clue: “Doing grown-up tasks, in Millennial slang.”
Burnout is a type of work-related stress. It is not a medical diagnosis, but some doctors believe that there are underlying conditions, such as depression, that can impact how an individual feels burnout. Millennial burnout is part of the change in the way people work.
But as a study has recently found, they may be the hardest hit. Just this month, Telstra's Talking Loneliness report found that one in two Gen Z (54%) and Millennials (51%) reported that they regularly feel lonely — a figure much higher than that of other generations.
Millennials, the generation that includes those born between 1980 and 2003, are commonly described as lazy, poorly prepared and without aspirations.
Gen Z is also the smartest and best educated generation. Having an unlimited wealth of information at our disposal has not gone to waste. In America, 57 percent of Gen Z is reported to have enrolled in a two-year or four-year college, compared to 52 percent of Millenials and 43 percent of Gen X.

Like older generations, Gen Z and millennial workers said the reasons they'd most likely quit a job are low pay, burnout, lack of flexibility, lack of appreciation, mental health concerns, and frustration with slow career progression.
Older people tend to say “you're welcome,” younger people tend to say “no problem.” This is because for older people the act of helping or assisting someone is seen as a task that is not expected of them, but is them doing extra, so it's them saying, “I accept your thanks because I know I deserve it.”
This most health-conscious generation takes a holistic perspective on health. They simultaneously work on their physical elements, appearance, and mental health, and are happy to mix and match traditional and cutting-edge technologies.
Millennials have been described as the first global generation and the first generation that grew up in the Internet age. The generation is generally marked by elevated usage of and familiarity with the Internet, mobile devices, and social media, which is why they are sometimes termed digital natives.
Cultural Acceptance
The Millennial Generation can accept novel things. Hence, Millennials are able to work with other people easily and accept diverse cultures. Unlike previous generations, the Millennial Generation is more tolerant of different races, religions, and cultures (Sa'aban et al., 2013).
Americans who belong to Generation Z (born between 1997 and 2012) are far more likely to say they were lonely growing up. A majority (56 percent) of Gen Zers report they felt lonely at least once or twice a month during their childhood.
Millennials today stand out as the most confident generation in the United States, according to the latest edition of LinkedIn's Workforce Confidence survey. On a scale of -100 to +100, where +100 is most confident, millennials score +43.
Gen Z (42%) is about twice as likely as Americans over 25 (23%) to battle depression and feelings of hopelessness. Gen Z is three times as likely (18% to 5%) as Americans over 25 to say their challenges are so severe that they thought they might be better off dead.
Whether it's financial debt, consumption of social media, always connected work environments or heavier workloads with fewer resources, there are many different factors that may cause higher levels of stress, anxiety and depression in millennials compared to past generations.
