Glossy paper is accepted in all local recycling programs, provided the paper does not have a plastic coating. If the glossy paper is easy to tear, it should be ok.
Glossy magazines are made out of paper and therefore widely recycled. If you're done with hoarding them under the bed, pop them in your recycling bin.
In general, you can recycle glossy paper such as that you can find in magazines, junk mail, brochures, business cards and more. You can all recycle those in your kerbside.
Recycling a magazine when it's no longer needed is the best way to dispose of old magazines. While magazines are treated with certain additives to make the pages look glossy, they can be recycled with your normal paper products. Never throw old magazines into the bin, even if it's in a poor condition.
We're sorry to be the bearers of bad news, but magazines cannot be composted. The glossy paper and ink that are used to protect the paper and draw your attention to them at the checkout line are often coated with plastic and other chemical goodies that aren't really conducive to creating good fertilizer.
Books, comics, magazines, newspapers, pamphlets can be placed in your recycling bin. Please ensure book spines and plastic covers are removed. Excess recycling can be dropped off free at a Recycling Drop Off Centre.
Recycling is always preferable to sending an item to a landfill. But reusing your magazines around the house is usually even more sustainable. This is especially true if you use old magazines to make something you would otherwise purchase, such as a gift bag. Donate your old magazines.
Both books and magazines fall under the category of mixed paper, which also includes catalogs and phone books. While mixed paper has a lower commodity value (and thus a smaller recycling market) than items like newspapers, office paper, and corrugated cardboard, most paper mills in the U.S. will recycle mixed paper.
To save money on shipping and processing, rather than return the full copies of unsold dated magazines, retailers strip off the covers and return only those. This is agreed to be proof that the magazine was not sold and was destroyed. The rest of the unsold issues are disposed of by the store via recycling.
Can photographs be recycled? Photographs and negatives cannot be recycled and should be placed in the waste bin.
Shiny or Glossy Cardboard Is Recyclable
Shiny or glossy cardboard can be recycled, such as a toothpaste box. Waxed cardboard cannot be recycled, which you can identify by scratching off the wax.
Recycle at home
Paper greetings cards can be recycled at home but please remove any parts that contain plastic, glitter, batteries, electronics or any other embelishments before recycling.
Paper Posters Are Recyclable
If a poster is made of paper, it is recyclable. Glossy paper is OK.
Shiny / metallic paper should be disposed of in your local council's kerbside residual waste bin.
Are all Post-it® paper products recyclable? Yes. 3M has conducted recycling trials on Post-it® Notes at recycled paper mills. The adhesive on the paper does not interfere with paper recycling because the adhesive is substantially removed in the paper deinking process.
Shredded paper, sticky notes and other small pieces of paper can go in your green bin.
Most of the time the answer to your question is yes. As long as you do not have an excessive amount of glue on paper and poster board, you can recycle them with paper. However, if the glued item is on waxy-feeling paper, it can't be recycled.
Stacking the papers isn't that tough, but bundling them and getting them to the curb for pick-up can be a chore. An easy solution is to take two pieces of string or twine about 4-feet long and place them in an “X” pattern on the bottom of a little red wagon, you know, like the one you had when you were a kid.
How Long Does It Sit In Our Landfills? A newspaper will decompose in a landfill in 25 weeks… But a magazine takes more than a YEAR to decompose! (Additional processes equal longer landfill time.)
