“Dental implant maintenance is not difficult, but it is imperative.” Good oral hygiene involves caring for your mouth and gums, as these are what hold your implants in place. If you fail to do this, the gums surrounding the implants can develop a build-up of bacteria and, even worse, infection.
You simply glide the super floss underneath your bridge, then wipe back and forth underneath. Then, wrap the floss around the implant on each side of that space to clean more closely along the gumlines. Second, you have traditional floss and a floss threader.
Deposits can also be cleaned with special brushes. Visible implant bodies can mean bone or gum has been lost, typically due to an infection, and fusion with the bone can be compromised. The surfaces that keep the implant in place are microscopically roughened, which also makes them difficult to clean.
The daily care of dental implants is very similar to the care of natural teeth. Restored dental implants should be kept clean and plaque free twice a day using a brush and floss. Cleaning is especially important after meals. This is accomplished by gently brushing, giving special attention to all sides of the implant.
You should still be wearing a bra everyday (even if it is a pretty one) and a really supportive bra for exercise, especially with implants. Save the braless look for those special nights out! All women should be doing monthly self-examinations of their breasts and mammograms/ultrasounds regularly after the age of 40.
Generally speaking, you shouldn't consider going braless for at least six weeks after breast augmentation. Your breasts need to be thoroughly supported during this time to ensure optimal healing. After six weeks, you may occasionally go braless, but try to keep this to special occasions, and don't make it a habit.
There is no special way to clean your dental implants, just make sure you care for them as well as you would care for your natural teeth. Flossing with dental implant floss is highly recommend, just as it is with your normal teeth. Continue brushing dental implants as normal, at least twice a day.
Implant rupture: Saline and silicone implants can deflate if the outer shell becomes damaged. It is advisable to remove ruptured implants and replace them with new ones. Capsular contracture: This is the term for hardened scar tissue that can develop around one or both implants, causing discomfort or cosmetic changes.
DO choose a low-abrasive, tartar-control toothpaste. Using a normal OTC toothpaste containing fluoride is OK. There is no need to choose a special type of toothpaste, but look for the ADA Seal of Approval to find the ideal options.
Once the area is healed, an electric toothbrush is an excellent choice for routine home cleaning. Patients should be careful to apply only gentle pressure with light, sweeping movements.
Gentle brush strokes and soft bristles are necessary to prevent inflammation and the loosening of the implant. Non-abrasive, tartar control toothpaste is best suited to care for the surface of the implant.
Dental implant surgery takes a few months for recovery, and yes, after implant placement, some people experience the gums growing over the implant. It is possible to avoid gums' growth around the implants if the implant is placed correctly and the patient is ideal.
Bite into Juicy Steaks
If you've had traditional tooth replacements in the past, there is a good chance you've avoided delicious BBQ just because it's difficult to eat. Thankfully, dental implants allow you to chew meat just like your natural teeth.
Your recovery after the implant procedure is easier than other types of oral surgery. As long as you eat soft foods, avoid smoking, and have good overall health, you'll only need to take about a day to recover. Have some Tylenol or Motrin handy for the first day or two.
The most common side effect is irregular bleeding (aka spotting), especially in the first 6-12 months. But most people on the implant get lighter periods, or their periods stop altogether while they have the implant. Other possible side effects that aren't as common include headaches, breast pain, and nausea.
The risks and complications you are taking for dental implants include infection, damage to other teeth, delayed bone healing, nerve damage, prolonged bleeding, jaw fractures and more. If you are willing to take these risks, dental implants might be right for you.
An implant that has failed will be consistently movable. Other signs of a dental implant that has lost osseointegration can include pain, swelling, or infection, but that's not always the case. If your dentist notices that your implant is mobile, they might recommend an X-ray to check your bone growth.
Most often, dental implant pain when chewing develops from your gums and bone around the placement. In addition, you may have a dental implant infection called peri-implantitis, the most common reason for discomfort around a dental implant.
General Advice Following Dental Implant Surgery
The position of your head matters, especially when you are sleeping. Try to sleep propped up on a couple pillows. This positioning will help you obtain a solid night's rest and assist with managing the flow of blood.
If you feel comfortable enough after the first day, then you can choose to lay on your side, but continue to keep your body elevated, with your neck still above heart level.
When can I go braless after augmentation? While it's best to provide your new breasts with as much support as possible post-surgery, it's usually safe to go braless on occasion (but not daily) from around six weeks. Most patients should wait at least 3 months before going braless on a regular basis.
For the first 4 – 6 weeks following a breast augmentation, patients should be wearing a supportive medical bra around the clock, including while sleeping, to promote proper healing and provide added support.
As far as wearing the bra to bed at night, that is optional. If the patient has undergone a reshaping of an existing scar tissue pocket at the time of the breast surgery, however, we advise that the bra be worn for six weeks at night while sleeping.
