Psychology Today published an article about how introverts often have a higher emotional intelligence (EQ) than extroverts. Since their introspective nature allows them to analyze their thoughts, emotions, and actions, introverts often have high EQs.
If you're an introvert, you likely possess emotional intelligence skills that your more gregarious counterparts secretly admire, and rightly so. Introverts are often misread as people who wish they could change. But that's not so!
High Emotional Intelligence. Contrary to popular belief, many people will assume that an extroverted individual will have higher EQ than an introvert. But what most people miss out is this — they are mutually exclusive.
The finding of the study showed that introvert, intuition, feeling and judging (INFJ) personality type were more emotionally intelligent than the extrovert, sensing, thinking and perceiving (ESTP) personality type.
On average, introverts and extroverts are the same in terms of intelligence. But statistics show that around 70% of gifted people are introverts. People are considered “gifted” when they exhibit above-average intelligence or a superior talent for something, such as music, art or math.
Not only is Einstein one of the most famous scientists in history, but he was also a known introvert. Leaning into his introverted nature, Einstein believed that his creativity and success came from keeping to himself. He said, “The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind.”
In fact, more than 75 percent of people with an IQ above 160 are introverted.
INTJs are also known for their low EQ and unwillingness to engage the emotions—their own or others. Preferring to conceptualize the world on a logical, rational basis, they tend to have little patience for emotional concerns. They struggle to pick up on and respond to the emotional cues and needs of others.
The types that are likely to have a low EQ are the MBTI personality types with an inferior feeling function. The four types that most likely to have the lowest EQ (according to type not the actually person) are ISTPs, INTPs, ESTJs and ENTJs.
The INTP personality type (commonly called “The Thinker”) describes people with Introverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, and Perceiving traits. INTPs are imaginative, analytical people who enjoy learning about abstract concepts. The INTP type is one of sixteen personalities defined by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
However, our research at Bandelli & Associates has found that introverts often possess greater levels of Relational Intelligence than extroverts do. Relationally intelligent introverts are often highly self-aware, observant, and are excellent listeners.
introverts may be more objective, and thus, are less likely to be affected by certain emotional cues that might confound an extrovert's ability to accurately determine credibility.” In other words, introverts have an advantage in reading people's body language because of their natural tendency to be observant and ...
Because of the major differences in disposition between extroverts and introverts, each has different basic mental health needs. An introvert cannot thrive without alone time just as an extrovert needs to be around people to feel their best.
Introverts tend to be sensitive, introspective, and interested in the deeper feelings of encounters or transactions (Henjum, 1982). They are also empathetic, caring, and have good listening skills, which may enable them better to understand and help others (Cain, 2013).
As introverts are thinking, they reach back into long-term memory to locate information. An introvert will often compare old and new experiences when making a decision, which slows the processing down but leads to carefully thought-out decisions.
Introverts tend to be more prone to overthinking than extroverts, but it's possible for anyone to fall into this trap. Being an introvert means you have a tendency towards self-reflection that can take its toll if you're not careful.
Which Types Ranked as the Least Happy? Sadly, INFPs ranked the lowest for happiness as well as the lowest for life-satisfaction. According to the third edition of the MBTI® Manual, these types also ranked second highest in dissatisfaction with their marriages and intimate relationships.
The short answer: INFJ (Introverted-Intuitive-Feeling-Judgment) is the most complex Myers-Briggs Personality Type.
What personality has the highest IQ? INTJ (Introvert, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging) type scores the highest on conceptual IQ tests among all 16 personality types.
In general, I would say that EXTJs are considered the 'least empathetic' MBTI types, due to their demon Fe. Fe (extraverted feeling) is often thought of as relating to empathy and the desire for social harmony.
The least empathetic would be ESTJ or ENTJ (theoretically).
You're the silent type
You'll find plenty of misconceptions about quiet people, e.g. being labeled as introverts, socially awkward and so on. This isn't necessarily true, and while not all quiet people are necessarily smart, highly intelligent people will often refrain from speaking if they are accessing a situation.
While it's true that both types of personality can experience problems with their mental health, it's widely accepted and proven that introverts are more susceptible to depression than many other personality types.
Introversion isn't totally genetic. It gets influenced by your environment at a young age, and our genes allow a certain amount of flexibility in response. This happens through “set points,” which are the upper and lower limits of how much extroversion your brain can handle.
