Types 1 to 3 are common in white populations, though there are some white people with type 4 hair. Types 3 and 4 are common in black people, though there are some Africans and people of African ancestry with type 1 and 2 h...
Black hair can be found in people of all backgrounds and ethnicities. Black hair contains a large amount of eumelanin pigmentation, a type of melanin. This hair type contains a much more dense quantity of eumelanin in comparison to other hair colors, such as brown, blonde and red.
Caucasian hair can be smooth, wavy or curly. Its colorimetry can vary from blond to dark brown. It grows obliquely, and grows about 1.2 centimeters per month.
Category 4: Kinky/Coily
This category has the African human hair type because it is largely seen in black people. This category can also be referred to as types of afro hair because it has a lot of people showcasing a fro! This is naturally very dry and wiry or soft and fine hair.
The 4c hair type lies within the broader type 4 hair category of the hair typing system. Type 4 hair is also referred to as Black, kinky, or coarse hair and is characterized by its tight, dense texture and natural lift.
4c hair type has the tightest curl pattern of all the curly hair types. Strands are formed in tight, springy, ringlets. 4c hair tends to clump more at the ends and is even more prone to shrinkage than 4b hair. According to CURLS, 4c hair can shrink up to 75% of its length!
Type 4C hair can range from fine to thin to soft to coarse. In addition, this hair type shrinks more than 75 percent. So, if you have 3 inches of hair it may look like you have only 1 inch or less if the hair is not stretched. And, it is the most fragile out of all the 4 hair types.
We believe one of the reasons is that super-straight hair — also known as type 1a hair — is so rare. In fact, it's the rarest hair type. Only 2% of the world's population has 1a hair. It's mostly found in people of Asian descent.
The average diameter, or thickness, of Asian hair is from 80 to 120 µm, compared to 65 µm in Caucasian hair and 55 µm in Black hair. The average diameter of Hispanic/Latino hair tends to fall between that of Asian and Caucasian. Caucasians have the highest hair density among the ethnicities studied.
Notably, African hair is more coiled and dry; Asian hair is straighter and thicker; and Caucasian hair is somewhere in between with around 45% having straight hair, 40% having wavy hair, and 15% having curly hair.
With Caucasians, research shows that “45 percent of European people have straight hair, 40 per cent have wavy hair and 15 per cent have curly hair.” Curly hair is not exclusive to one race and it does not mean you have to be mixed raced to have curly hair. It's actually not rare for Caucasians to have curly hair.
Hair Growth Rate
Asian hair shows the fastest growth rate in comparison to the other two hair types. African hair has the lowest growth rate.
Less than 20% of people have naturally curly hair.
The rarest natural hair colour is red, which makes up only one to two percent of the global population. You commonly see these hair colours in western and northern areas of Europe, especially Scotland and Ireland. However, natural redheads may not exist for much longer.
Black hair and blue eyes is a much more rare combination than is blonde hair and blue eyes. The reason why these two traits are linked is that the genes responsible for hair and eye color happen to be close together on the same chromosomes.
The genes responsible for hair color are neither dominant nor recessive — it is a matter of which genes are turned on or turned off. The hair color produced depends on the amount and type of melanin produced by melanocytes (melanin-forming cells).
There are racial differences, however, in the incidence of male pattern baldness. The highest rates are found among Caucasians, followed by Afro-Caribbeans. Chinese and Japanese men have the lowest rates. For some unknown reason, this form of hair loss is does not occur among Native Americans.
However, we have three main classifications of hair type based on ethnicity/race. These are Afro hair, Caucasian hair (also known as European hair), and Asian hair.
Genetics (which controls ethnicity) is the number one cause of hair loss. Certain races have higher rates of hair loss compared to others. Caucasians have the highest rates out of all the ethnic groups. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Native American Indians, Inuits, and Chinese have the lowest rates.
How common is strawberry blonde hair? Having natural red hair is rare (like, two percent of the population rare), so coming across someone with natural strawberry blonde hair isn't common.
A general observation across experiments was that straight hair was perceived as younger, healthier, and more attractive than wavy hair and darker shades (medium copper and brown) were perceived more positively than blonde hair.
Type 2C hair waves start from the scalp and are thicker than other Type 2 hair types. This coarse hair type is the frizziest and forms a clearly defined “S” shape.
4c hair is naturally fragile due to its tight, coily shape, which causes it to easily break and shed. Too much tension. If you love combing, physically manipulating, and twisting your hair, you may be contributing to the breakage.
And because 4C hair doesn't retain moisture easily, it's also the driest of all curly hair types. This means your 4C hair is delicate, frizz-prone, and easily tangled and matted.
4C hair is formed up of fluffy strands which lack a defined curl pattern. 4C hair's texture varies widely from person to person that is from fine to coarse texture.
