Oda stated in an SBS that
The other problem is that Devil Fruit users are weak to being submerged. The user cannot swim, and their power is negated when submerged in water, just like all Devil Fruit users. So even if the user becomes water, they will turn back to normal and drown if they are submerged.
What happens if a Devil Fruit user touches water? If a Devil Fruit user touches water, they will suffer a unique form of drowning known as “Mizu No Umi”, which literally translates to Sea of Water. Users of the Paramecia and Logia types of Devil Fruit have different reactions when they touch water.
It's currently unknown why Devil Fruit eaters can't swim. One explanation is because the ocean hates those with Devil Fruit powers, but it's unclear if this is the truth or one of the many myths that have grown around the Fruits over the centuries.
DF users are only weak in standing water (ie lakes, seas, oceans, etc) Nothing happens if they drink or shower. Crocodile isn't weak either.
Luffy is a rubber man is because as a child he ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi (Gum-Gum Fruit). However, all users of such fruits share the same weak point: seawater. They cannot swim and lose all their strength when they come into contact with the ocean. This is one of the great ironies of the series.
Of course! It's only salt water that's a problem for Devil Fruit users. Otherwise, they'd feel all woozy any time they had something to drink. Bathing is fine as long as you're bathing in fresh water.
Although like others who have eaten a Devil Fruit, Luffy cannot swim; when he is submerged in water or contacts the Sea-Prism Stone, he loses his strength and cannot move on his own. In addition to his Devil Fruit powers, he has immense strength, durability, speed, reflexes, agility, endurance, and stamina.
Luffy, has spent his entire life at sea and yet, he cannot swim. This is because Luffy ate a Devil Fruit, a magical fruit that grants its eater extraordinary abilities but also takes away their ability to swim.
Zoro set out on his journey to becoming the greatest swordsman in the world by defeating Dracule Mihawk, the man who currently sits on the stone. Over the years, he has come a long way and become one of the strongest pirates on the seas. Zoro has attained terrific strength, but he does not rely on a Devil Fruit at all.
He can swim. While it may seem like a do-nothing statement for most people, Zoro often has to use this special skill to save his captain, when Luffy forgets that he himself is not able to swim. As long as Luffy has his Devil Fruit, he'll never be able to beat Zoro in the swim meet of life.
At first, it meant that DF users can't swim and can only drown in the sea. Then it became they lose all stamina and can't really even move in seawater. Now, it's the idea that they lose all stamina when up past their waists in "still water". So rain, waves, and moving water don't affect them at all.
To put things simply, Devil Fruits are high-risk high reward – meaning one can attain tremendous power without even lifting a finger and instantly become strong by using them. Haki, on the other hand, is an ability that is more stable and takes quite a lot of practice to master.
Global Location. Earth fruit is known from Anderson, Gregg, Harrison, Palo Pinto, Panola and Parker counties in Texas, and in the neighboring states of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Missouri.
Weaknesses. Despite these advantages Luffy is not immortal. Though immune to lightning, he can be damaged by other elements such as fire or ice, attacks involving cutting or stabbing and Haki-infused attacks.
This means that the Sui Sui no Mi is the only Devil Fruit shown so far that lets the user maintain (although in particular conditions) the ability to swim. According to Oda, Sanji would have this Devil Fruit if he were allowed one.
Mythical Zoans are the rarest type of Devil Fruit, even more so than Logias. Artificial - Artificially created Zoan Fruits that cause the user to permanently take on an animal characteristic; though, much more rarely, the user becomes able to transform at will.
Rain and other liquids don't affect them, which is why they can still bathe and drink.. also their weakness of more related to the sea rather than water as sea-stones affect them just as much as sea water does.
When using Gear 4, Monkey D. Luffy is capable of jumping off the air, akin to Geppo, by utilizing the extreme compression of his rubbery body.
Like normal Devil Fruits, SMILEs render those who consume them unable to swim. It has been noted that, unlike real Devil Fruits, SMILE fruits actually have a good flavor.
In the anime, Luffy managed to use it to cleanly cut through multiple swords with great ease despite his lack of skills. Like all of the swords crafted by members of the Kitetsu school, this one is said to be cursed and will bring a horrible death to all of its owners.
While Luffy is generally bold and fearless, certain events and people can still frighten him, and he can express utter shock as well. When he was a child, he was afraid when Garp would find out about his dreams of sailing as a pirate. He is wary of Nami's temper, as he thought whoever wanted to marry her is brave.
None of the women have kissed Luffy, but the first to lock lips with him is Reiju when she gave him mouth-to-mouth. In the anime, Marguerite bathed an unconscious Luffy whilst still clothed, in the manga she is naked herself. Rebecca notably allowed Luffy to sleep on her lap after his victory over Doflamingo.
Throughout his journey Luffy has made strong bonds with numerous women. At least two have fallen in love with him, Alvida and Hancock, whilst another two have become enamoured with him, Rebecca and Shirahoshi. Nami, Robin and Vivi all share close and deep bonds with Luffy and have become some of his closest friends.
Of course he (can) drink sake/alcohol. We can see clearly in chapter 800 - An Underling's Vow, when they celebrate the formation of the 5600 strong straw hat grand fleet. He said he dont really like the taste of it (unlike zoro).
