However, nuts are very calorie dense (high in fat, low in water), so eating unlimited amounts can easily add an extra several hundred calories a day to your diet, which could lead to weight gain and increased cholesterol levels.
More importantly, eating too many nuts can actually lead to food toxicity which can range from mild symptoms to severe illness. In addition, many nut varieties contain the amino acid L-Arginine, which can cause mouth ulcers if you over-indulge.

Brazil nuts, cashews and macadamia nuts are higher in saturated fat. Too much of this can contribute to raised cholesterol levels, so only eat them occasionally. Chestnuts are an exception – they're lower in all types of fats and higher in starchy carbohydrate than other nuts.

How much should you eat? High cholesterol levels are considered: too high: between 5 and 6.4mmol/l. very high: between 6.5 and 7.8mmol/l. extremely high: above 7.8mmol/l.
The bad cholesterol is called LDL and the good cholesterol is called HDL. When people have high cholesterol their LDL (bad) is high and their HDL (good) is low. Eating healthy, regular exercise and drinking plenty of water will help to bring down cholesterol levels within 2-3 weeks.

You might also just be straight up hungry and in need of nutrients! If you're not getting enough fats in your diet or following a low carb diet, your body may seek these macronutrients in the form of nuts or nut butters. Luckily there's little downside in indulging your craving in moderation.
