Who can see your pictures? BeReal shows your picture to your friends who have submitted their own BeReals by default. You can also choose to share your picture PUBLICLY, but only those who have also shared a BeReal picture during that day's picture window will see it.
No one but you can view your Memories, not even your BeReal friends. Memories display on your profile and are enabled by default. RealMojis and comments don't save to Memories. Tap "View all my Memories" on your profile to see your past BeReal posts.
BeReal is a popular photo-sharing app that lets users share one photo per day to show their followers what they are doing at that moment. It differs from other social media platforms by encouraging users to share unfiltered snapshots of their lives, and by only allowing one post per day.
You can change the audience setting at any time after posting. Tap your BeReal. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner. Choose the option to change audience.
BeReal does tell you if somebody screenshots your post, but it won't show an obvious notification like on Snapchat. If you want to see who took a screenshot of your BeReal post, just tap the screenshot icon next to your post in the app.
While BeReal is generally safe to use, there are also weaknesses when it comes to content moderation and location sharing.
What happens if you miss a BeReal? Missing a BeReal isn't the end of the world. There are no real consequences. If you post late, your friends can see that you posted later than the two-minute window.
Memories. Each daily BeReal post is saved to user's profile and stored as 'Memories'. No one else can view their 'Memories' and at the end of the year they are compiled into a showreel.
Open your BeReal app. Tap the human-shaped icon in the top-left corner of your screen to access your contacts. In the Suggestions tab, you will find the people in your contact list who have already joined BeReal. Tap the Friends tab to look for new contacts.
This three-dot menu is in the top right corner of your screen. Tap Delete from Memories. That image will no longer appear in your Memories, but it is still available on the platform for everyone to see. Uninstalling and re-installing the BeReal app will not delete your Memories.
All photos are unfiltered, unedited, and unscripted. Within the 2 minutes, you can retake the photo as many times as you'd like. Though if you miss the 2-minute timer or you're perhaps not near your phone or your phone is switched off, then your BeReal will be tagged as late for everyone to see.
If your post goes outside the two-minute period, your friends will receive a notification since it may mean that you changed your surroundings or took some time to look presentable. The app also allows you to react to your friend's BeReals via RealMojis.
Your friends will be able to see how many times you retake your BeReal before posting it. To see retakes, tap the three dots icon located on the top right of someone's post or on the bottom right of your own post.
Check your internet status
The most common problem people have with the BeReal app isn't related to BeReal at all — it's a poor internet connection. To post to BeReal or to see other people's posts, you need to be reliably connected via cellular or Wi-Fi. Check your wireless status at the top of your phone's screen.
BeReal also separates users into different time zones, so users in different regions of the world will get the notification at different times.
Check The Internet Connection
Most users' issues with the BeReal app have nothing to do with the app itself but instead with their internet connection. It would be best if you had a steady data connection (either cellular or Wi-Fi) to post to BeReal or view the posts of others.
Pressure to share
Although BeReal is designed to make users feel like they are seeing each other's real lives, young people could be worried about how they will look in the picture. This might make them anxious or feel like they have to prepare for the notification.
How old do you have to be to use BeReal? BeReal terms & conditions state that “BeReal is open to users over the age of 13 only”.
The Bottom Line
BeReal may appear to be safer than other apps, but that doesn't mean kids shouldn't be monitored. Remind your child that pictures are not accurate portrayals of life, as anyone can seem flawless for a millisecond. There are risks of being contacted by predators.
BeReal does notify you about screenshots, but the app won't send you a full notification. When someone takes a screenshot of your BeReal, a special icon will appear next to your photo. If you're using the BeReal iPhone app, you'll need to share your BeReal photo before you can see who screenshotted it.
You can leave comments on your friend's BeReal. Comments are public and can be viewed by the friends of your friend. Tap the option to add or view comments under your friend's BeReal.
