Clear video, day and night: Every Ring camera has 1080p HD resolution and infrared night vision, so we could see absolutely everything going on in and around our home.
The motion sensor, encased in a dome on the bottom of the camera, has a 270-degree detection range. The camera streams and records video in up to 1080p resolution and supports two-way talk with noise cancellation and night vision up to 30 feet.
The Ring device will actually pump out infrared light to illuminate the surrounding – a bit like how a floodlight turns on and floods an area in light. But because infrared light is outside of the visible light spectrum, you won't be able to see this light. The Ring device can then record even when it's quite dark.
Tap Display. Select Auto to follow the settings on your mobile device. Select Always Light to keep a lighter daytime look. Select Always Dark to keep the app in Dark Mode at all times.
This could be due to the Spotlight Cam's connection or a physical obstruction on the camera lens. Try the steps below to see if any of them help improve the view. Gently clean the Spotlight Cam's lens with a dry cloth to ensure there's no dirt or debris obstructing it.
Although the Ring system is relatively cheap, a major disadvantage is its limited range. Ring can only monitor a relatively small area like your front or back door. For other security concerns, like home security doors and gates, Ring pushes their “Works with Ring” products.
Can you tell if someone is watching you on Ring? If you see the infrared light turn on at night while the security camera is in Disarm Mode, someone else may be viewing your live feed. Change your router's password and ensure that video encryption is enabled on your Ring Camera.
How does a Ring get hacked? Researchers at Dojo, an Internet of Things security company, have found that bad actors can intercept your Ring doorbell by accessing the network it uses. This is possible because the data traveling between the Ring device and its application is not encrypted.
Your Video Doorbell will record when someone rings the Doorbell or motion is detected, regardless of the time of day. I would recommend verifying that you do not have motion detection disabled in the Modes settings or disabled on the device profile page.
While Ring doesn't have the feature set of Google Nest's Cams (see our full Google Nest Cam review here), their cameras are reliable across the board. There's a reason why they're one of the top-ranked security camera brands out there, after all.
All the Ring Doorbells come with night vision which can give you a view of the front porch in black and white. Some Ring Doorbells like Video Doorbell Pro, Video Doorbell Pro 2, and Video Doorbell Elite come with color night vision.
No a Ring Doorbell or Security Camera doesn't record video 24/7. Instead these “smart” doorbells, will only start recording when an event is detected. The Ring isn't recording all the time but will active on motion. When something enters the cameras field of view, the Ring device will start recording video.
As long as their security cameras are not recording private information, there is nothing stopping them from recording your property in their camera's field of view. Most likely, your neighbor's security camera isn't able to see anything that a pedestrian walking down your street wouldn't be able to see.
The default recording length is set to Auto, and the device will record for up to 120 seconds. Once motion stops, the device will stop recording. As a result, the length of each recording will vary.
The normally white LED ring around the button turns blue indicating that the camera is active AND someone is watching it.
Solid blue light: A solid blue light means that the camera is starting up and/or recording. Slow blinking blue light: If the blue LED lights blink slowly, then that shows the camera is in setup mode. Blue light blinks on and off, then is on for two seconds: This means that a firmware update is in progress.
Camera Access with Ring Alarm
If Ring cameras, doorbells, and Ring Alarm are present at a Location, all Shared Users can access all the cameras and doorbells there by default. This is, however, at the Owner's discretion. An Owner can limit any Shared or Guest User's access to cameras and doorbells at their Location.
A higher level of security - With a wider range of superior surveillance features, security cameras offer a higher level of security than doorbell cameras. They come with extra features like long-range night vision, pan-tilt-zoom, motion detection, large storage, and more.
The changes to the Ring Alarm essentially make it useless as a smart alarm system without a subscription, though. You can only arm and disarm it with the Ring Alarm keypad, and you won't get app alerts or emails when your alarm is triggered; only the siren in the base station will alert you.
Ring Protect Basic costs $3.99/month or $39.99/year. Ring Protect Plus includes video recording for all doorbells and security cameras in your home. You also get an extended warranty plus 10% off select Ring products on Ring.com and Amazon.com.
The Ring Video Doorbell Wired is Ring's smallest, most affordable doorbell. The Video Doorbell Wired offers 1080p HD video with night vision and two-way audio with noise cancellation.
How far out does motion detection go? Motion detection on video doorbells can detect motion up to 30 feet from the camera. For enhanced motion detection, make sure you have the latest version of the Ring app downloaded on your iOS or Android.
Ring doorbell cameras are a technological advancement that were designed to protect and document activities in front of your house. This increases their chances of being stolen. Ironically, the gadget designed for security can get stolen.
