Red Flag #7: Flu-Like Symptoms
A handful of general symptoms can be signs your melanoma has spread, though they're pretty nonspecific—meaning they could be symptoms of many things, from the flu to cancer.
The first melanoma signs and symptoms often are: A change in an existing mole. The development of a new pigmented or unusual-looking growth on your skin.
Some types of skin cancer spread along the nerves. If this happens, it can cause itching, pain, numbness, tingling, or a feeling like there are ants crawling under the skin. Other signs may include a lump or bump under the skin in areas such as the neck, armpit, or groin.

Pigment, redness or swelling that spreads outside the border of a spot to the surrounding skin. Itchiness, tenderness or pain. Changes in texture, or scales, oozing or bleeding from an existing mole. Blurry vision or partial loss of sight, or dark spots in the iris.
Talk to your doctor if you notice changes in your skin such as a new growth, a sore that doesn't heal, a change in an old growth, or any of the A-B-C-D-Es of melanoma. Achy joints. Along with your lymph nodes, lungs, and liver, your bones are one of the places a melanoma may spread—even if your skin symptoms have resolved themselves, Davis says. If that's the case, you may experience arthritis-like symptoms like joint pain.
