To place a bet you will need to insert money/credit into the machine. EBTs accept only notes and scannable betting vouchers (attendants will exchange your cash for a voucher upon request). Once you have credit in the machine a balance will appear down the bottom of the screen.

Australian Residents can withdraw cash or cheque at any Tabcorp Retail Agency or selected PubTAB and ClubTAB outlets in NSW or Victoria using your Tabcorp Customer Account card.
TAB reserves the right to not allow the withdrawal of funds where bets are placed and then cashed out. The TAB cannot give you cash on funds that have been deposited by a Credit Card or VISA/Mastercard Debit Card online and have not been used for betting.
Inactivity fees are charged when certain accounts go dormant or when investors don't make any buy or sell orders in their brokerage accounts for a certain amount of time. These fees are legal and can be avoided by making at least one transaction per year or by closing the account altogether.

Keeping your card is a guarantee that your tab will be paid at the end of the night regardless of where you wander off. Well, that's assuming there are sufficient funds on your card and you aren't scamming us, and/or buying out the bar by the bottle. Scams aside, keeping your card is security.
