According to what Joe tells Beck, Mooney has a stroke and is left lying on the floor for days unable to move because
He is not seen again for the rest of the series, and his fate is unknown, as Joe has left New York, after Candace Stone's return. It is possibly that Mooney may still be at his home after the stroke or had died from unknown reasons.
Originally, the glass box housed rare books in the basement of the store Joe worked in. The book store's owner, Mr. Mooney, would lock Joe in the cage as a young boy to punish him. As an adult, Joe started using the lockable box as a torture chamber for his own victims.
Mooney (Mark Blum) adopted Joe (Gianni Ciardiello), took care of him and gave him a job at the bookstore.
Mark Blum played the role of Mr. Mooney, the bookstore owner, in You season 1. Mooney acted as Joe Goldberg's surrogate father figure who took him and taught him everything he knows. Viewers get to know Mooney through Joe's flashbacks in the first 10 episodes of the series.
He cared for him but also was abusive to him believing that he was guiding him. He would often lock Joe in his glass cage in the basement to teach him various lessons, telling him that he is doing it out of love and to make sure Joe does not end up like his father.
Joe's first on-camera victim, played by Lou Taylor Pucci, got to see our favorite killer's rage up close and personal. It's just too bad he wasn't able to survive his peanut allergy. Beck's best friend, played by Shay Mitchell, was You's first major character death.

Immediately struck by her beauty and interest in literature, Joe has one clear target from that point forward: Beck. From stalking her online, locating her residence, to manipulating situations until they finally meet again, Joe is relentless in his romantic pursuit.
His father was abusive to him and his mother. His mother frequently cheated on his father, often leaving Joe alone in public areas while doing so. His father would physically abuse him, such as putting cigarettes out under his arms, trying to force him to confess his mother's infidelity.

Will is able to convince Joe that he has no intention of turning him in if he releases him, that he just wants to go to Manila to be with his girlfriend who he met on the internet. Joe decides to let Will out believing the promise that Will won't tell anyone about Joe's true identity.
A few very lucky characters managed to somehow beat Joe's twisted game and survive the cage, like Sherry (Shalita Grant) and Cary (Travis Van Winkle). As many times as Joe has tried to leave his past behind and start over, the cage always pops up and reminds viewers of who he truly is.
And then [Paco] does this incredible thing in the finale [in return]." The 'thing' being, of course, when Paco sees Beck trying to escape from the basement in the bookstore and does nothing to help her. This is because, to him, he sees Joe as a good person after what he did to Ron.
Forty pleads with him, asking about his mysterious patient that he had read about in the "free Dr. Nicky" subreddit dedicated to his innocence. He shows Dr. Nicky a picture of Joe, and he confirms it was the patient he knew as Paul Brown.
Candace is killed by Love.
Love uses the bottle to slit Candace's throat. This is more or less the same way she'd previously killed the au pair who was hooking up with her brother, Forty, when they were kids. Later, Love takes Candace's body to Anavrin where she presumably disposes of it.

Scott did say, though, that the closest clinical diagnosis to a "psychopath" or "sociopath" is antisocial personality disorder, and that Goldberg does indeed show some hallmark traits of the disorder. He also demonstrates characteristics of narcissistic personality disorder, experts say.
It comes down to the empathy that Joe evokes, according to Neo. "Empathy is really about how we are compelled to understand why things are the way they are. And we try to do that for other people, especially if we are very understanding of other people. So when we have empathy for someone, it hooks us in."
Guinevere Beck
Known throughout Season 1 as Beck, she met Joe in the bookstore where he worked. His obsession with her quickly began. Joe just needed to tie up some loose ends before the couple could be together in peace. He first needed to kill her on-again, off-again boyfriend Benji (Lou Taylor Pucci).
Joe and Kate Move to New York
After her boyfriend is killed, she cozies up to Joe... which is never a good idea. To make a long story short? Joe ends up killing her dad. He then tells Kate the truth about his identity, and somehow, she's fine with it?!
She waits inside of Joe's apartment expecting her as she breaks in and confronts her, telling her she knew she was Candace Stone. Candace admits who she is and tells Love that "Will" is really Joe, and that he had tried to kill her and also killed his girlfriend after her, Beck.
Realizing that he might have to protect Henry from himself — or a life in the foster care system should Love and Joe both be revealed as murderers — Joe drops his baby off at the home of co-worker Dante (Ben Mehl) after Love's death.
