Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame saw Thanos' Infinity War snap reversed, but while most of the fallen heroes returned, those who died before Thanos' snap weren't so lucky, including Gamora. Endgame, however, brought Gamora back thanks to the Time Heist, allowing her 2014 self to journey to the present.
The story of old Gamora is finished
She soon betrayed her Mad Titan adoptive father, Thanos, and joined the cause of the Guardians of the Galaxy and, in some part, the cause of the Avengers. In the meantime, she fell in love with Peter Quill and gained a new family in the form of her team members.
Gamora died in Avengers: Infinity War when Thanos sacrificed her life to obtain the Soul Stone. It was the only way for him to obtain the Infinity Stone because she was the only person he cared for. Gamora then came back in Avengers: Endgame as a few years younger version of herself.
The fact that Gamora betrayed Thanos was the reason why she was spared when Tony Stark used the Infinity Stones to wipe out the Mad Titan and his army. However, Gamora left Earth to find her place in the galaxy as she had nowhere else to go after Thanos, and his army was defeated.
Zoe Saldana retires as Gamora
Even in her previous interview with Total Film Magazine, she revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 would mark her final appearance. She said: “I think the time has come for me to step down and for the next generation to come forward.

The Gamora that we met during the events of Avengers: Endgame is a different younger version of Gamora that never met Peter Quill and never fell in love with him, and it's impossible for her to have memories of the events of something that never transpired in her timeline.
"When Gamora went off that cliff, the Gamora from that time period died. But this is the Gamora from prior to that. So she's still alive, she traveled in the time machine to the present.
“I do find this Gamora very exciting because she's very independent and she's wild and she's different." There's one character who might be surprising for viewers to see in Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — Gamora.
2014 variant
Gamora is then brought through the Quantum Realm to the current universe and is recruited by the other Nebula to join her side. They find Nebula and Clint Barton in the destroyed Avengers Compound and try to convince her to abandon Thanos. However, she refuses, and is killed by the other Nebula.
In Natasha's case, the trade is irreversible. She cannot be brought back. Hulk even admits that he tried when he snapped. Tony was able to handle even putting on the Gauntlet through sheer force of will.
Even though this Gamora doesn't have the same experiences as her Infinity War self, she does turn against Thanos and learn of her alternate life with the Guardians and Peter. After helping the Avengers in that final Endgame battle, she disappears by the end of the film.
Saldaña does seem to be done with playing Gamora now. Based on the fact that the role is so makeup-heavy, it's hard to blame her. She told Variety in November 2022, “I miss Gamora, but I don't miss 3:30 a.m. calls and five-hour makeup sessions and trips to the dermatologist afterwards.” Yeah, that's fair.
Thanos was crying because he had to sacrifice Gamora to obtain the Soul Stone. He was crying because she was the person he loved the most in the world, and he had to give her up to accomplish his genocidal plans. The fact that he was still willing to pay the price proved that he didn't love her enough.
At the moment, it looks unlikely that the Guardians will come back for a fourth movie – at least in the form that we currently know them – but never say never.
Thanks to a little time travel to the year 2014, Gamora plays a key role in Avengers: Endgame despite being killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
Saldaña has said before she's done with the MCU, even though she hopes another star can take over the role of Gamora. Respecting her wishes, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 serves as a farewell to the Original Gamora, as Peter and the fans get to realize that woman is dead and won't come back.
Zoe Saldaña returned as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but she was curiously missing during the McU's Phase 4. Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame saw Thanos' Infinity War snap reversed, but while most of the fallen heroes returned, those who died before Thanos' snap weren't so lucky, including Gamora.
The filmmaker is exiting the MCU after directing three “Guardians” movies and is moving on to his new full-time job as the co-head of DC Studios, where he's building a new DC Universe across film, television and video games that includes a Superman movie he's writing and directing.
We know that Gamora wasn't at Tony Stark's funeral - unsurprising considering that she didn't know him, really - so she must have fled after the battle was won.
Gamora and Black Widow were sacrificed. In the end of Endgame, Captain America had to return the Soul Stone, but did that revive Black Widow? No. Red Skull does not say that returning the stone could revive the dead people.
Actress Scarlett Johansson, who was introduced as Black Widow in 'Iron Man 2' before going on to star in 'The Avengers' movies along with 2021's 'Black Widow', said that she has no plans to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future. "Yeah, it was awesome.
Quill becomes the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy after they assemble out of necessity to stop Ronan the Accuser from destroying Xandar. He discovers that he is a Celestial hybrid and that his father, Ego, created him as a means to terraform planets.
At some point in the past, Gamora was tasked with discovering the location of the Soul Stone. She didn't outright find the stone, but she knew its location through a map she discovered. Just in case, she burned the map and kept the knowledge to herself, figuring that Thanos would be too dangerous with all the stones.
Technically, Peter Quill no longer has the traditional powers of a Celestial that Ego had.
