I vividly remember it was 50 years ago today April 11, 1970 that Apollo 13 launched from Florida on it's moon mission. I remember it well because just the day before the Beatles officially announced that they had broken up, making headlines around the world.
That all changed on April 10, 1970, when an ambiguous Paul McCartney “self-interview” was seized upon by the international media as an official announcement of a Beatles breakup.

The Last Meeting
In the middle of September, the four Beatles gathered together for a business meeting at Apple Studios. It happened sometime between September 15 and 19, 1969—this was the final time all four Beatles were together in the same room.

McCartney ended up suing the band after disagreements with new manager Allen Klein. "The only way for me to save The Beatles and Apple (Records) ... was to sue the band," he told the magazine, explaining he wasn't able to bring a lawsuit against Klein directly because "he wasn't party to it."
Lennon, the band's founder, had in some ways acquiesced leadership of the band; more important, he was beginning to feel he no longer wanted to be confined by the Beatles, whereas McCartney loved the group profoundly – it was what he lived for.

Mattingly's first prime assignment was to be the Command Module Pilot on the Apollo 13 mission. Three days prior to launch, he was removed from the mission due to exposure to German measles (which he never contracted) and was replaced by the backup CM pilot, Jack Swigert.
Haise, along with commander Jim Lovell, was supposed to walk on the moon during Apollo 13. That all changed on April 13, 1970, when an oxygen tank exploded and badly damaged the command module, Odyssey.
McCartney felt that the four members' evolution from musicians to businessmen was central to the band's disintegration. Epstein's role as band manager was never replaced, and ultimately the lack of strong managerial leadership contributed significantly to the break-up.
"At first, after the breakup of the Beatles, we had no contact, but there were various things we needed to talk about," McCartney wrote. "Our relationship was a bit fraught sometimes because we were discussing business, and we would sometimes insult each other over the phone.
Although "The End" stands as the last known new recording involving all four members of the Beatles, one additional song, "I Me Mine", was recorded by three members of the group (Lennon being absent due to having privately left in September 1969) in January 1970 for the album Let It Be.
