Effect of imprisonment on income support claims
A claim for income support pension or payment prior to entering prison, or while in prison will still be investigated following normal procedures. However, the pension, payment or benefit will not be payable until you are released from prison.
How much you can get. You can get a Crisis Payment for Release from Prison or Psychiatric Confinement each time you're released. It's equal to a week's pay at the maximum basic rate of your income support payment or ABSTUDY Living Allowance. It doesn't include other allowances or supplements.
