Put one dose into an empty glass. Mix this product (child or adult dose) with at least 8 ounces (a full glass) of water or other fluid. Stir briskly and drink promptly.

Stop using psyllium and call your doctor at once if you have: constipation that lasts longer than 7 days; rectal bleeding; or. severe stomach pain.
Using psyllium husk
When you take your evening dose you'll need to make sure you wait an hour before you go to bed – if you go to sleep too soon, this can cause a blockage in the gut. An easy habit to get into is to have Fybogel after you've eaten breakfast, and after you've eaten dinner.
Metamucil has been shown to be a more effective laxative due to the fact that it is not fermented in the human bowel. This allows it to hold water throughout the intestinal tract and slows digestion. Slower digestion has been shown to help with glycemic control and weight loss as well.

Like their other products, Metamucil's gummies contain natural orange flavor and citric acid. We don't recommend Metamucil Fiber Gummies due to the additive ingredients, but we do consider this product to be healthier than Metamucil Sugar-Free Fiber Powder which we reviewed above.
For individuals with constipation-predominant IBS, a soluble fiber supplement (Metamucil or others containing psyllium) can be helpful. Large amounts of fiber can hinder the absorption of medications, so take your medications one to two hours before the fiber supplement.
Because psyllium slows down the digestion of food, people should take it with food, rather than on its own, so it has a greater effect on blood sugar levels ( 13 ).
The soluble viscous gelling fibre from psyllium husk maintains its gelled nature through the digestive tract. In the large intestine this results in its stool normalizing benefit. By absorbing and retaining water the psyllium softens the stool to relieve constipation. Always read the label, use only as directed.
While it is possible to gain weight when taking Metamucil, it is not a direct cause of the supplement itself.
Taking too much Metamucil can cause Metamucil overdose symptoms which can include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or other symptoms of an overly high fiber diet.
