They decided to try again for a second child, but after agreeing that Callie would carry it, Callie went to see an OB/GYN and discovered that she had developed adhesions in her uterus since Sofia's birth, meaning she can't carry any more children.
Both Callie and the baby survive, and Arizona and Mark finally realize that they both belong in the baby's life. Callie eventually recovers. Meredith emotionally explains to Derek about how she was jealous of Callie for getting pregnant. Derek promises Meredith a baby.
The reason Arizona won that custody battle is because she was the better person to raise Sofia. Callie decided to run off to New York with her girlfriend of a few months and thought it would be fine to drag her child across the country, away from all her friends, away from her school, and away from her other mom.
Meredith opened the door to Arizona, who was awarded sole custody. She and Sofia happily headed home. Back inside, Callie was distraught. “How the hell did this happen?” she asked Meredith through tears.
Fans of Grey's Anatomy tuned into a full-scale custody trial last week as Callie and Arizona battled over their daughter, Sophia. For those unfamiliar, Callie and Arizona are the parents of an 8 year old child whom they have shared custody of since their divorce on the prime time medical drama based in Seattle.
Ben is able to save both April and her daughter's lives, while Arizona makes amends with Callie and allows her to move with Penny and share custody of Sofia.
Callie eventually loses custody of her daughter to Arizona and breaks up with Penny, heartbroken, Penny moves to New York.
Soon after, Arizona was inseminated. When her period was one day late and her breasts started to hurt, Arizona took a pregnancy test and found out that she was in fact pregnant. She told Callie that they were having a baby when Callie came home that night after a long day of work.
Arizona survived the crash, but ended up having to have her leg amputated. Arizona struggled with her situation and ultimately did everything she could to push Callie away, including having an affair with Dr. Lauren Boswell.
Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) leaves for Africa after getting a grant leaving Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) despondent. She sleeps with Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) and becomes pregnant by chance. Arizona returns, confessing her love for Callie.
Becoming a Mom
As viewers got to know the character, they came to realize one of Addison's biggest dreams was to become a mother. However, after trying IVF and coming to know she had no eggs left, she decided to adopt a baby in order to fulfill her dream. In Season 5 of Private Practice, she adopted a baby boy: Henry.
In the midst of trying to adopt Zola with Derek, Meredith is fired from the hospital (not for the last time!) because she tampered with the Alzheimer's trial. Naturally, when Zola's social worker finds out Meredith was fired and lied about living with Derek, she takes the baby away.

Mark Sloan, AKA "McSteamy." Despite their "friendship with benefits" Callie reconciles with George and they get married in Las Vegas.
She married Jackson Avery and had two children: a son, Samuel, who died of osteogenesis imperfecta type II, and a daughter named Harriet. The character's story concluded with the 14th season.
50. Arizona Robbins and Leah Murphy. If you were asking Arizona, she would say this was just a rebound hookup after Callie. If you were asking Leah, she'd say they were on the verge of getting married.
Callie and Arizona's Wedding is the wedding between Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins.
6. When Jessica Capshaw was pregnant with her first child, Grey's Anatomy decided to send Arizona to Africa for a few episodes, which led to her breaking up with Callie. In 2012, Jessica was pregnant again, but this time Grey's just used some clever techniques to hide her pregnancy.

Stef and Lena ultimately make up. After an impassioned speech to a judge, Callie is officially adopted by the Adams-Foster family. While initially upset by Connor's choice, Jude decides to support him after hearing Callie tell the judge about how much having a loving family means to her.
Arizona Adopts Sofia
Arizona received legal parental rights and Sofia became her daughter on paper in Season 8 of Grey's Anatomy.
Sofia was delivered 16 weeks early as a consequence of a car accident Arizona and Callie got into, and after various health complications, she made a full recovery. Sofia was still very young when Mark died in Grey's Anatomy season 9, but her story continued as Callie and Arizona were still part of the series.
Her father died when she was still very young, leaving her to be raised by her mothers. When Callie was planning to move to New York with Penny, Arizona fought Callie for custody. Arizona won, but she ended up making a shared schedule with Callie, saying that Sofia deserved two happy moms.
Doctors consider forty weeks as full term, so premature birth would start at thirty-seven weeks. However, Baby Sofia was born at twenty-three and a half weeks, so she actually fits the category of "micro-preemie"—babies born at less than twenty-six weeks and weighing less than one and three-fourths pounds.
