As the pregnancy grows, Rafael and Jane start to have feelings for each other, but the relationship doesn't last very long. Jane ends up having a baby boy named Mateo Gloriano Rogelio Solano Villanueva.
Jane goes into labor, causing conflict between Rafeal and Michael. Meanwhile, Xo and Rogelio try to make it home on time to see the baby. Petra makes a discovery of her own.
When it's revealed that Jane's pregnant via insemination with Rafael's sample, he tells her that he and Petra want the baby, but Jane seriously considers terminating the pregnancy. However, after she decides to keep the baby and give it to Rafael and Petra after it's born.
Jane deciding to keep Mateo
But in a moment of strength after quitting her job at the hotel (owned by ex-boyfriend, father-of-the-baby Rafael, are you following Jane the Virgin virgins?), our heroine made the decision to keep her baby, Mateo, for herself and sue the father for sole custody.
She has a five-year-old son named Mateo, with her boyfriend and baby-daddy, Rafael Solano.
Mateo was the result of an artificial insemination performed by his aunt Dr. Luisa Alver, sister of Rafael Solano. She was actually meant to inseminate Rafael's wife Petra with his sperm but during that time of distress, she mixed up two appointments and accidentally inseminated Jane Villanueva instead.
Spoiler: Jane and Michael finally did it, a deed the show depicted with a cartoon of them stepping into a rocket that blasted off into the stars.
With Michael's return, Jane (Gina Rodriguez) has put her life on hold in order to do everything she could to get to know, well, Jason. But in episode 3 she realized that it was time to move on with her life. She signed the divorce papers — oh yeah, they were still married — and said goodbye to her husband.
Petra eventually moves on to Lachlan, but inseminates herself and has two daughters with Rafael.
Petra becomes engaged to Lachlan Moore before leaving him for Rafael Solano, a man with slightly more money, but ultimately falling in love with him. The two get married and Petra becomes pregnant, but they eventually lose the baby and Rafael becomes diagnosed with cancer.
Jane Gloriana Villanueva got her happy ending. In the series finale of Jane the Virgin, not only did Jane get married to Rafael, but she revealed that her book's ending plays into the very show that fans have been watching for five seasons. (As does her son Mateo.)
Xiomara is a woman in her 40s, who gave birth to Jane when she was just shy of 17 years old.
After Petra regained control, the twins were still bonded to Anežka and responded more to her than their mother. However, three years in the future, the twins has no relationship with their aunt. When Anežka was thought dead, the twins were not sad and even played around at her funeral.
Unfortunately, Petra has a late-term miscarriage. It is probable Lachlan was actually the father. When Rafael finds out he has cancer, Petra stands by him during his treatment, but mid-way through his recovery, he falls out of love with her.
Anežka is the daughter of Magda and the long lost identical twin sister of Petra and also has a triplet brother named Pyotr.
A major plot point for Jane and Michael in the first season is their inability to find time to be together and manage their busy work schedules. At the end of the season one, Jane and Michael's once happy relationship begins to crumble when Michael cheats on Jane with fellow doctor Kimberly Shaw.
Jane and Michael have sex for the first time and Jane finally loses her virginity in Chapter Forty-Seven.
Although the characters share a 5-year-old son (thanks to the miracle of an accidental artificial insemination) and have dated in the past, viewers have never seen Jane and Rafael as intimate as they were in the closing moments of "Chapter Seventy-Four," which means it was a new experience for the stars as well.
Jane tries to find out if she is still married to Michael/Jason and suffers from severe catholic guilt. Jane tries her best to help Jason regain his memory but is not getting through to him. After Jane learns that she is still married to Michael, she decides to get divorced from him so she can move on with Rafael.
After two seasons, a marriage, and a baby, Jane Gloriana Villanueva is a virgin no longer.
When the promotional poster for the season was first released, it was revealed that the character of Mateo was recast with Elias Janssen due to previous child actor Joseph Sanders being too busy with school to commit to the role.
In the series premiere, Jane is a 23-year-old virgin who learns she's pregnant after accidentally being artificially inseminated by her doctor.
Jane confesses that she got it in her head that Rose switched babies at the hospital. Xo laughs as Jane reminds her that the mass murderer is still alive.
