Daphne and Simon return to Hastings House to find the Bridgerton brothers waiting for them. They say that they won't leave until they're convinced that Simon loves Daphne and will treat her well. Daphne tells them that they need to let her fight her own battles. Simon tells Daphne that he loves her, and they kiss.
Though they have a deep connection, their marriage is rocky as Simon doesn't want to have children due to his growing up with an abusive father. Eventually, Simon makes peace with his past and the two reconcile their relationship. The season ends with Daphne giving birth to their first child, a baby boy.

Ultimately, however, The Duke and I see them as a match made in heaven. The pair not only stay together, but they also go on to have five children.
On their wedding night, they discussed their feelings and discovered they both loved each other, but each had believed their love to be unrequited. They consummated their marriage and arrived at their new home.
Regé-Jean Page, who played the Duke of Hastings Simon Bassett, did not return to the show for season two, and he won't be back for season three. He shared that the show should feel free to recast his role. Page confirmed via Instagram that he will not be reprising his role as the Duke of Hastings in the third season.

Bridgerton then ends with the pair of them welcoming their first child, a boy who is one day due to become the next Duke of Hastings. After this rocky start to their marriage, the books reveal that Daphne and Simon stay together for good.
Daphne and Simon have five children together: Amelia, Belinda, Caroline, David, and Edward. Amelia marries Robert Joliffe, Viscount Lowestoft, and they have two children: Charles and Thomas.
However, the Duke eventually is persuaded to change his mind, and the ending sees him and Daphne reconciled and as happy and in love as ever.

Being a mother was something she greatly desired and it wasn't because society demanded that she become one, either, despite sister Eloise's accusations. Simon, on the other hand, wanted nothing to do with marriage or family even though he had grown to love Daphne during their fake courtship.
In the Bridgerton book series, we learn in book one that Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) was born in 1792 and she is 21 when the events in season one take place. The books reveal that Simon (Rege-Jean Page) was born in 1784 and since the show takes place in 1813, he is 29 when he meets Daphne.
Courses is an older, fancier way of saying “menses,” or a period. In the Bridgerton time period, the presence or absence of someone's period was essentially the only way of determining whether or not she could bear children or was pregnant, so much is made of courses by the women on the show.
For one, both Daphne and Simon are manipulative and narcissistic. A classic recipe for disaster. Simon lies to Daphne about being impotent, knowing how important children are to her.

But the would-be happy couple is tense, each believing they have forced the other into the union.
Their "happily ever after" ending features the the birth of a new baby, August (nicknamed Auggie). In season two, Daphne helps Anthony through his marriage pursuits. While her husband does not appear in the season, her infant Auggie does, eventually learning to walk by the end.
Then, her lady's maid explains the whole process to her, and Daphne realizes that Simon didn't exactly tell the truth. One time when they are having sex, Daphne gets on top of the Duke, and he is forced to finish. He is shocked, and she gets upset with him for lying to her.
During season two, Daphne casually reveals baby Basset's first name — Augie — which proves they stuck with Simon's request to follow the Bridgerton family tradition of alphabetizing kids' names. Perhaps Augie is a nickname for a longer Regency-era-worthy name like Augustus or Augustin?
Page's Duke of Hastings, who married Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) in the first season, would have been a background player at best in the second. Page opted to pursue his burgeoning movie career and (minor spoiler alert) does not appear at all in season 2, which debuts March 25.
Simon's Absence Proves Bridgerton Season 3 Will Work Without Daphne. A major concern for Bridgerton season 2 was how they were going to deal with Simon's exit from the Netflix show, especially with how fast he became a fan favorite. However, despite the concerns, Bridgerton handled Simon's exit without any issues.
Eldest daughter Daphne Bridgerton may begin the series as a largely sheltered ingenue, but by its end, she is a confident, capable – and, yes, sexual – woman who is determined to make the most of her own power in a world that wants her to believe she doesn't have any.

Simon and Daphne's story ended with the birth of their first child. (In season 2, Daphne and her child made limited appearances while Simon's absence was explained by important work events that keep him away from the family.)
Likewise, all of the mothers of young eligible women will stop hounding Simon to court their daughters. Their love story blossoms when they do eventually find that their feelings become real, and the truth comes out: after all this time and all of his attempts at controlling his speech, Simon admits he has a stutter.
