In "Chapter Twenty-Three", we see Petra struggling to decide if she should artificially inseminate herself with Rafael's sperm. She then goes for it, via turkey baster. It sounds wild, and it is.
After believing she still has a chance with him, Petra inseminates herself with his sperm. They agree to keep the baby, but Rafael makes it clear they are not getting back together. Despite that they grow closer during her pregnancy and Petra give birth to their twin-daughters.
Rafael is Petra's husband, the sperm donor, and now the father of Jane's unborn child. The premise makes for an entertaining show overall, but the way in which Petra's infertility is addressed is problematic.

Mateo is a son was born on May 14th 2015 to Jane Villanueva and Rafael Solano and was the result of an accidental artificial insemination performed on Jane by Dr. Luisa Alver, Mateo's aunt.
