If someone taunts you, they say unkind or insulting things to you, especially about your weaknesses or failures.
Emotional abuse happens when a child is repeatedly made to feel worthless, unloved, alone or scared. Also known as psychological or verbal abuse, it is the most common form of child abuse. It can include constant rejection, hostility, teasing, bullying, yelling, criticism and exposure to family violence.
Make your response short and quick so that they understand that you will not engage. Simply say “Okay” or “Thank you for that” in response to them. If you do feel like there's any truth in the insult, make the decision to only take the information that's helpful to your growth. Then, ignore the rest.
Address the issue soon after it happened. Take deep breaths or remind yourself that you are going to be okay, so you remain calm. Consider asking for clarification before reacting to the insult. Focus on how it impacted you rather than criticize or blame the other person even if they were completely in the wrong.
Responding sarcastically makes them to take silent revenge on you because it hurts their ego. To stop whole taunting and ridiculing, join them and support them to ridicule you. Laugh with them, next time they won't do it. Give them hints to taunt you.
Take a moment to practice deep breathing, or repeat a positive quote or mantra to yourself. Allow yourself as much time as you need to healthfully work through tears or feelings of anger. Avoid exploding emotionally, and instead give yourself time enough to calm your immediate feelings.

TAUNTING Taunting is a choice to bully someone for whom you have contempt. There is no intent of playfulness, even if the bully says, I was just teasing, or joking. Taunting is intended to isolate the target, to hurt, and words used are demeaning and cruel. The bully may laugh, and so may the bystander(s).
