Feel the ExcessIf you feel a noticeable or uncomfortable amount extra fabric lingering around your backside when you tuck, you're probably dealing with a shirt that's a little too big for you. You should be able to tuck easily, comfortably, and not have to worry about the shirttails crowding in the back or the sides.
Your clothes shouldn't be uncomfortable to move in
If you can't move like you normally would, your clothes don't properly fit. "You want to aim for a normal range of motion in your clothes, including being able to lift your arms up or sit down without fabric straining against your thighs," Thomson-Sakhrani said.
But where do I store it all? If there is room in your wardrobe, put them in an area of the wardrobe that isn't used a lot. Generally up high, or down low is best. If there is no room in your wardrobe, then consider a spare room or the garage.
Because baggy clothes make anyone over a size 10 look bigger, it's as simple as that. The point is to draw a clean line around the body, to streamline. A loose silhouette doesn't show where the fabric stops and the body begins, so you actually look as big as the extra large dress you're wearing.
When you just don't know what size to order or if you think you're in between sizes, it's always a safe bet to go a size up. It's much easier to work with a garment that's slightly bigger than one that's too small, if you don't want to return it.
Ideally, you should be able to fit two fingers into the waistband of your slacks. Your waistband should fit comfortably around your waist, snug enough to tuck your shirt in, but not tight. You want to be able to move comfortably in your slacks with no wrinkling or puckering in the front panel.
The rule of thumb, Fernstrom says, is that losing 8 to 10 pounds translates to going down one size.
When shopping for oversized clothing, stylists suggest purchasing a shirt two sizes larger than your normal size. Your shirt should fit loose around your waist and shoulders while falling a few inches longer than a typical shirt.
Darker colours will make you look instantly slimmer, whilst lighter or shiny colours/fabrics will highlight problem areas. So, if you have a wider waist, wear a brown or black belt. If you want to play down a large chest, avoid wearing a silver blouse.
Avoid Baggy Clothes – They Will Make You Look Frail
We have often seen skinny people wearing oversized and large clothes to create that look. However, you will only end up looking like a skeletal scarecrow in those baggy outfits. You should also avoid wearing completely skin-tight clothes.
The oversized fashion trend is perfect for women and men that want a casual, simple yet stylish look. It's easier than you think to look put together in bigger sizes once you know the right fashion tips.
It Hasn't Fit in a Year
So if you've hung on to ill-fitting clothing for more than a year, it's time to get rid of it. If it's a piece you really want to keep, look into having it altered. The point is to keep only clothes in your closet that fit.
Tighter clothing has been found to lift pressure away from muscles, as well as aiding blood circulation. There is research to suggest that compression style clothing can increase blood and lymphatic flow which can boost performance when exercising by allowing oxygen to be delivered more efficiently to the muscles.
The first wash cycle usually causes most of the shrinkage a garment will undergo through relaxation. Additional shrinkage in the next few wash cycles is called progressive shrinkage. Usually after 5 wash cycles, shrinkage is complete and clothing won't shrink anymore over time.
Occasionally wearing tight clothes likely won't lead to significant health problems. If you like a fitted look, you don't have to give it up. That said, if you repeatedly wear clothing that restricts blood flow and digestion or compresses your nerves, you may end up facing more lasting effects.
The answer to this is invariably black or dark colors, because nothing slims your figure down as much as black does. Luckily, for most of us, it is our favorite color too. Also, try the monochrome look – it works. Go for a near color match or maintain a minimal color contrast for a tonal outfit to look slimmer.
The more common measurement that pushes shipments into the “oversize” category is width. Anything over 8.5 feet wide is considered oversized load; shipments exceeding 12 feet wide may require one to two pilot vehicles in the front and/or back of the flatbed truck.
Keep Your Silhouette Balanced
Pair it with slimming over-the-knee boots or skinny jeans on bottom to balance out the extra bulk up top. Alternatively, you can rock a form-fitting tee up top and wide-leg trousers or a flowy skirt down below. Just make sure to limit yourself to one oversize piece per ensemble.
Oversize Regulation in the United States

Using the BMI (body mass index) chart, at 5 ft 4 inches the normal weight range is from 110 to 140 pounds. Overweight would be 145 to 169 pounds. Obesity is anything past 174 pounds. What size jeans do I wear if I weigh 220 pounds?
You can drop a dress size (anywhere from 10 to 15 pounds, or about an inch or two from your bust and hips) and be special-occasion slim in only six weeks. The secret? Twenty minutes of cardio 4-6 times a week, skipping diet saboteurs, and an effective strength training routine.
Clothes that are too small and tight will show every area of excess your body has. On the other hand, clothes that are too big and baggy will make you look wider and heavier than you actually are. Only clothes that fit you properly will flatter you. That means trying clothes on at the store.
