The arm must be kept clean and dry, so will need to be covered with plastic if you take a bath or shower. The butterfly plaster covering the small wound at the insertion site should be left alone, and will fall off naturally over the next 7 days.
Post Removal Care
It is important to keep the pressure dressing dry. The dressing is removed after 24 hours, and a bandage is put, which is to be kept for at least 3-5 days. One may also experience some bruising, discoloration or swelling and pain for some weeks post removal.
When you have a wash or a shower, you could wrap some cling film around your arm to protect the dressing from water. Try not to replace the wound dressing as this might undo the paper stitches. removal, it can be helpful to wet the dressing and paper stitches to make this easier.
The following information is for patients who have had an implant inserted or removed. You may remove the pressure bandage after one full day but the plaster over the wound should be kept in place for three days.
Any side effects that you may have had while on the implant will eventually go away after the implant is out. Unless you start another hormonal birth control method after removing the implant, your period will go back to how it was before you got Nexplanon. In clinical trials, pregnancies were observed to occur as early as 7 to 14 days after removal. In clinical trials with the non-radiopaque etonogestrel implant (IMPLANON®), the etonogestrel levels in blood decreased below sensitivity of the assay by one week after removal of the implant.
In most cases it can take up to a year for all the tissues to fully heal following your surgery and you can expect to experience swelling and fluctuation in your breast size and shape even after your surgical incisions have fully healed.
