As we all pass through life looking at people and materialistic things around us, We often tend to look at people above us and desire to be like them. But Islam advises us to look at those below us and feel content at what Allah has provided us.
'A'oothubikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min ghadhabihiwa 'iqaabihi, washarri 'ibaadihi, wa min hamazaatish-shayaateeniwa 'an yahdhuroon. English Translation: I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His slaves and from the taunts of devils and from their presence.
Jesus knew what it was to be lonely! But then He said, “Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me” (John 16:32). Jesus knew what it was to be comforted even in the face of abandonment. When loneliness engulfs us, the first thing we must do is to turn our focus away from what we don't have to what we do have.
A brain imaging study showed that feeling ostracized actually activates our neural pain matrix. In fact, several studies show that ostracizing others hurts us as much as being ostracized ourselves. We can hypothesize that, similarly, loneliness is associated with the pain matrix.
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “No person suffers any anxiety or grief and says this supplication, but Allah will take away his sorrow and grief, and give him in their stead joy. Having said that, however, Muslims are not immune to the feeling of grief or depression.
The study empirically investigated the idea that Quranic verses (Surah Al-Rehman) can help manage depression.
Some surahs of the Holy Quran are valuable reading during depression and anxiety, as their meanings and messages can help alleviate depression, inshaa Allah. Surah Duha, Surah 93, ma sha Allah. Allah subhana wa ta'ala revealed it at a time when our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam was depressed, to soothe him.
Surah Al-Inshirah
The 94th chapter of the Quran contains themes of hope and comfort. It was revealed around the same time as Surah Duha. Surah Inshirah urges not to give up under hardships and stress. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), at that time, was distressed.
One of the most well-known characteristics of the Prophet SWS was his positive, peaceful demeanor, often his smile. In fact, it was reported that he said, “Smiling in your brother's face is an act of charity” (At-Tirmidhi; Declared Authentic by Al-Albani).
There are also some practices in Islam that help Muslims enhance their mental health. These practices include (1) daily prayers, (2) fasting during the month of Ramadan, (3) helping others, and (4) daily reciting of the Holy Quran. When Muslims are praying, they are talking directly to God.
We all experience difficulties in our life's and as Muslims we should know that this is a test from Allah. In fact that this is something Muslims firmly believe in, that going through difficult times is inevitable.
Elijah's depression told him, “You have been faithful to God and what good has it done? God has abandoned you, you have failed, and hope is gone.” Depressed people have a distorted view of God, self, and the world. So, God showed Elijah powerful displays without God and then stillness with God.
Dua: Allaahumma rahmataka arjoo falaa takilnee ilaa nafsee tarfata 'ayn. wa aslih lee sha'nee kullah. Laa ilaaha illaa Ant. Translation: O Allah, it is Your mercy that I hope for, so don't leave me in charge of my affairs even for the blinking of an eye.
Everyone is indeed tested by Allah in so many forms of both happiness and sadness, shortage and abundance as mentioned in the Qur'an Surah Al Baqarah Verse 155-157. The verse reminds us that anyone, whoever he/she is, even the Prophets are tested by Allah SWT.
The reasons that laughing and crying as Almighty Allah was said in quran, “And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep”. There's a lot of difference in crying of a person to another. Some people are crying out of fear and fright and some are weeping in cause of grief and regret.
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to invoke Allah at the time of distress, saying, "La ilaha illal- lahu Al-`Azim, al- Halim, La ilaha illal-lahu Rabbu-s-samawati wal-ard wa Rabbu- l-arsh il-azim."
Loneliness increases the risk of premature death by nearly 30 per cent, with the report revealing that those with poor social relationships also had a greater risk of stroke and heart disease. Isolation also elevates a person's likelihood for experiencing depression, anxiety and dementia.
The effect caused by loneliness, moreover, appears to be especially damaging to the cardiovascular system. Hostility, for instance, affects how hard the heart muscle beats. But loneliness produces an increase in vascular resistance—it becomes harder for blood to move through the arteries.
Published in Perspectives on Psychological Science, a study found that people's expectations from interpersonal relationships undergo considerable changes as they age — resulting in them often feeling lonelier as they grow older, even if they're not alone.
