The 8.0-liter
Bugatti made two V-12 internal combustion piston engines. The first was a quad-turbocharged, 3.5-liter engine, used in their EB 110 sports car, in 1991. The second was a 6.0-liter, naturally-aspirated unit, used in their full-size EB 112 luxury fastback sedan.
All Chiron models are motivated by an 8.0-liter 16-cylinder powerplant. This beast of an engine employs four turbochargers to generate a mighty 1500 horsepower and 1180 pound-feet of torque. Bugatti claims that the Chiron makes the dash from zero to 60 mph in a mere 2.3 seconds, and it has a top speed of 261 mph.
The Cadillac V16 engine is a term that applies to two different Cadillac-designed V-16 automobile engines, an overhead valve 45-degree 452 cu in (7.4 L) model produced between 1930 and 1937, and a 135-degree side valve 431 cu in (7.1 L) between 1938 and 1940.
A V16 engine is a sixteen-cylinder piston engine where two banks of eight cylinders are arranged in a V configuration around a common crankshaft. V16 engines are less common than engines with fewer cylinders, such as V8 and V12 engines.
A V24 engine is a 24-cylinder piston engine where two banks of twelve cylinders are arranged in a V configuration around a common crankshaft. The majority of V24 engines, however, have been "dual V12" engines where two separate V12 engines are placed in line with each other.
The engine is indeed a true V16. Sharing a single cylinder block, and four-cylinder heads with gearing between the heads, providing a single output from the center of the engine assembly to the five-speed transaxle.
The V16 engine produces higher HP, torque, and top speed compared to V6, V8, V10, and V12. At the same time, V12, V8, and V10 engines perform better than V6 in all aspects other than gas mileage and emission.
A V20 engine is a twenty-cylinder piston engine where two banks of ten cylinders are arranged in a V configuration around a common crankshaft. Large diesel V20 engines have been used in diesel locomotives, haul trucks, electric generators and marine applications.
The V20 Camry was more stylish than the V10 and had a much more polished three-box look, albeit still made up mostly of straight lines.
The most recent addition to the Bugatti lineup — Bugatti Divo — houses a W16 engine that produces 1,479 hp and 1,180 lb-ft of torque. Needless to say, the legendary W16 engine has come a long way since it took the auto world by storm over 15 years ago.
The Bugatti W16 engine is a quad-turbocharged, W-16 engine, made by the Volkswagen Group, under their high-performance luxury sports car marque Bugatti, since 2005. In 2021, Bugatti announced the retirement of the W-16 engine.
The fastest Bugatti in the world is the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. The Chiron Super Sport 300+ set a new world record for the fastest production car with a top speed of 304 mph.
Lamborghini announces a new, hybridized 6.5-liter V-12 powertrain that makes up to 1001 horsepower. It features three electric motors, two up front and one integrated to a new, Lamborghini-designed, eight-speed double-clutch transmission. The full car will be shown—and its name revealed—at the end of the month.
The car has a 6.6-litre V12 engine which delivers a maximum power of 603 hp (450 kW) @ 5,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 620 lb⋅ft (841 N⋅m) @ 1,650 – 5,000 rpm. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 s and has a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Its power-to-weight ratio is 176.3 W/kg.
Marine use
MAN V14 engines have been installed on cruise ships such as the Explorer Dream and Norwegian Spirit, both of which have 14V48/60 engines producing 14,700 kW (19,700 hp) each, and on some cargo vessels. However, other major manufacturers do not normally offer medium-speed engines in the V14 configuration.
This engine was in reality formed by mounting two Fiat AS. 5 V12 one behind the other, obtaining a total displacement of over 50 litres and a power output of about 3,100 hp.
The V18 engine is a rare configuration and is primarily used in large diesel engines running at low operating speeds. These large V18 diesel engines have seen limited use in haul trucks, electricity generation, rail transport, and marine propulsion.
V-6 engines have improved performance compared to V-8 engines, especially when timing acceleration properly because there's less tendency to drift to the outer edge. However, you can lose a little bit of the power ceiling with the weight advantage.
You could fit the V-16 into a car originally made for a straight-eight. “Otherwise you're building a tube frame car around the engine or adding significant length,” says Robinson, adding that a mid-engine truck with a transaxle would be the easiest way to get the V-16 into a road-going vehicle.

The BMW Goldfisch is a SOHC 32-valve V16 6.7-litre prototype automotive piston engine based on the BMW M70 V12 engine.
The Bavarian company decided to modify the existing M70 V12 engine and add four cylinders to design its largest production mill. The 6.7-liter V16 engine was heavily revised featuring strengthened and enhanced internals, as well as a new engine management system.
