Christianity and circumcision Circumcision is not laid down as a requirement in the New Testament. Instead, Christians are urged to be "circumcised of the heart" by trusting in Jesus and his sacrifice on the cross. As a Jew, Jesus was himself circumcised (Luke 2:21; Colossians 2:11-12).
Today, many Christian denominations are neutral about ritual male circumcision, not requiring it for religious observance, but neither forbidding it for cultural or other reasons.
There is no room for debate or speculation. Christians are forbidden from practicing routine infant circumcision by the New Testament.
He May Get Urinary Tract Infections
Similar to the idea that uncircumcised penises are less hygienic, many believe that forgoing circumcision leads to urinary problems, such as urinary tract infections (UTIs).

The American Academy of Pediatrics considers circumcision a choice for parents to make. Some parents choose circumcision for religious or cultural reasons. It is important to consider the pros and cons, how the surgery is performed and the potential complications.
Most boys born in Australia around 1950 were circumcised. Since then, there has been a big move away from circumcision. Now less than 20% of Australian boys are circumcised. The only major western country where circumcision is very common is the United States.
About 60 percent of boys in the U.S. are circumcised at birth, which means that 40 percent are uncircumcised. So both circumcised and uncircumcised penises are common in the U.S. It's also worth mentioning that in many countries outside of the U.S, it's much more common to be uncircumcised.
Perhaps the loudest argument against circumcision is that many believe it's medically unnecessary and a form of genital mutilation without a person's consent. In fact, according to a recent YouGov survey, only 33 percent of 18-to 29-year-olds feel that male children should be routinely circumcised.
Sikh infants are not circumcised. Sikhism does not require circumcision of either males or females, and criticizes the practice.
Circumcision is completed for many reasons. Most commonly, it's used as a prevention technique — it ensures correct and proper hygiene for males and prevents a myriad of conditions. We'll discuss these conditions a little bit further down in this article.
We found that the vast majority of men expressed positive changes in sexual performance and ability to satisfy sexual partners after being circumcised and many men connected these feelings with increased feelings of masculinity.

Parents are, of course, free to make their own decisions in regard to their young children. The American Academy of Pediatrics said as much in their latest position statement on circumcision, noting that the benefits do outweigh the risks, but ultimately parents should make the choice.
The commandment to circumcise was a covenant made with Abraham and is recorded in Genesis 17:10–14, reading: 'And God spoke to Abraham saying: … This is my covenant which you shall keep between me and you and thy seed after you — every male child among you shall be circumcised. '

Pain during and after surgery
Many families who choose to forgo circumcision say they don't want to put their child through a painful elective procedure and recovery when they can live a healthy life without it.

Complications. Circumcision can cause skin bridges, haemorrhaging, infection, as well as major penile damage. Dozens of case studies describe severe complications, including penile amputations and death; several infant deaths have been reported in the past few years.

Somewhere between 60 and 90 percent of boys born in the United States are circumcised. Worldwide, circumcision is most common in the United States, Canada, the Middle East, Australia, and Africa. Circumcision is much less common in Asia, Europe, and South America.
