To use picture-in-picture (PiP), exit the YouTube app while a video is playing. If you have the PiP setting turned on, the video will shrink into a PiP window. The PiP window can be dragged to different parts of the screen, allowing playback to continue on top of other apps.
Minimize the browser, which will pause the video. If you're using an Android phone, swipe down the notification panel and tap the "Play" button from the playback notification to resume playback in the background.
If you don't see a floating window after minimizing YouTube, the picture-in-picture feature may be disabled in your phone's settings or the YouTube app. Turn the feature on in both those places and you'll have access to all your favorite YouTube videos in the background.
