According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly,
Stranger Things brings back fan-favourite Eddie Munson - with a twist. Eddie's coming back for a prequel story, but it won't be on TV.

“THIS CANT BE A COINCIDENCE,” a second responded, while a third agreed: “This HAS to have something to do with Eddie I legit can't think of anything else.” “Thank you for confirming that Eddie is alive,” someone commented. “This episode can either be about Eddie or Vecna,” another reasoned.
When asked about Eddie's return chances in season 5, the star offered a disappointing response for fans in attendance, stating that while he would "love" to come back, it was unlikely. See what Quinn said below: I mean, they're shooting soon!
Eddie Is Learning to 'Let Go'
Professionally speaking, Eddie is in a “good place” when we pick back up with him in Season 6, Reidel says. “He's back at the 118, and he's happier and healthier than before. Now he can focus on moving forward in a good way.” His home life, however, is another story.
A new clip of 9-1-1 season 6 shows Eddie playfully taking advantage of Buck's newfound powers.
Sadly, Eddie never had the chance, dying in a moment that could be questioned as a sacrifice in general. Instead, it seems like he was killed for potential shock value or to show that someone who was not the main character did not survive the battle against Vecna.
The Duffer brothers have also confirmed that at the end of Season 4, Max is alive yet "brain dead, blind, and all of her bones are broken." The big mystery is where the redhead is mentally. When Eleven later enters the Void to find Max, all she sees is darkness.
Eddie may not become a vampire per se, but according to theory, there's the potential for him to simply be undead and be brought back by Vecna to torture our still-living characters. It's a thought that has floated around the fandom for years and with Vecna's deceitful nature, it doesn't seem far-fetched.
Stranger Things Theory: Eddie Is Actually 010 From the Hawkins Lab Massacre. A Stranger Things theory suggests that Eleven wasn't the only test subject to survive the Hawkins Lab Massacre, and that Eddie Munson is actually 010.
Heading into season 5, Max is technically alive, but things look pretty bleak. The book Lucas was reading to Max - Stephen King's The Talisman - may offer some clues for what lays ahead in season 5. The popular 80s novel has many similarities to Stranger Things with an adventure about parallel universes.
Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) may have been able to revive her, but while Max is still alive, she hasn't been able to regain consciousness, and there's every possibility that Vecna has something to do with that.
The kicker of it all? Eddie's final words to Dustin: "I love you, man." If those words weren't already bringing on the waterworks, Dustin tearfully replies "I love you, too." And then Eddie is gone. The impact of those words in that moment could not have been more perfectly heartbreaking.
According to Forsythe, Eddie's tattoos weren't foreshadowing, though the puppet master and the bats do seem to hint at what eventually happens to Eddie. "The puppet-master tattoo was a nod to Vecna — how he controls people and pulls them up from the ground," Forsythe shared.
Eddie Munson
It's a shame that Eddie didn't have the Satanic powers that Hawkins believed he did, because he might have survived the Upside Down otherwise.
Though they're clouded with cataracts, Vecna in Stranger Things has both of his eyes.
The fan-favorite character ended the season in a coma with her bones broken and eyes blinded at the hands of Vecna. Max technically died for one whole minute before Eleven revived her friend, but Eleven's powers weren't enough to bring Max fully back to life.
The reason that Eleven couldn't find Max is actually pretty simple -- Max had already died. That means her soul had already been absorbed into Vecna's consciousness. So, while Eleven restarted Max's heart and brought her body back to life, she was trapped inside of Vecna's hive mind.
Ironically, Eddie Munson, who was killed by the Bats, has a tattoo of a bat on his arm. They are the only known species of the Upside Down that are not named after a Dungeons and Dragons character.
With Eddie being an important and intriguing character, and a fan-favorite, it seems Stranger Things could have added more meaning behind his death. Without a scene showing the impact Eddie's death had on his new friends who he just helped save makes his death seem less impactful.
Though Eddie manages to occupy the Demobats until the battle is over, he succumbs to his wounds. He dies in Dustin's arms in the Upside Down, and his body is never recovered. Days later, Dustin tells Eddie's uncle that he died a hero, fighting for the town despite the fact that everyone in it wrongly hated him.
Meanwhile, Eddie and Vanessa went on a date. She revealed that she was still recovering from heartbreak and had no desire to return to the game. Her aunt tried to set her up with several men, but none of them worked out. Eddie started getting attracted to Vanessa and was disappointed when she turned him down.
According to The New York Post, Eddie admitted the reason for his absence was that he was not invited back for another season. Eddie went ahead to further state that he didn't even receive a phone call from any of the show's producers to notify him of this departure.
Since Eddie came into the picture in Season 2, he and Buck have been through so much together. They love each other like brothers (OR MORE, if fans get their way). They regularly share heart-to-hearts. Buck is like a parent to Eddie's son, Christopher (Gavin McHugh).
