The rugged cliffs that mark the island's west coast are showing their red-brown rocky surface, but the low-lying interior region is still wearing the island's signature green. Ireland is essentially a depression ringed by relatively low mountains.
SEA LEVEL IS AN ABSOLUTE IN IRELAND
So when it's recorded that the sea has risen globally by 70ml during the past 20 years, but that in Dublin and Cork tide recorders are showing a 20 year rise of 130ml, then it can only mean that Dublin and Cork have been quietly sinking by 60ml since 2002.

Many points are on, or near sea level, but due to high rainfall, there are no natural dry pieces of land below sea level - see rivers and lochs below.
Unusually high sea level rise in Ireland is not the preserve of the capital. A 2021 study in the journal Ocean Science looked at sea level rise in Cork since 1842 and found that relative sea levels had risen by over 40 cm, nearly 50% more than the 27 cm expected for the region.

In Wexford, Kilmore Quay, Rosslare and Curracloe could be under water by 2030. Given their proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, Clare and Limerick will be severely affected by climate change, with many areas on the Shannon predicted to be under water in the next 10 years.
By January 2022, prices were 15% higher in Ireland than the previous year and they finally began falling in January 2023. But although prices are technically falling across Europe, they're falling from great heights.
If climate change continues at such a high rate, Ireland is likely to be affected by the following: Air temperature will rise by 1.5-2 degrees by 2080. Rainfall will increase in winter and decrease in summer. Sea temperatures may rise by 2 degrees by the end of the century, causing intense, aggressive storms.

All continents will be affected
Even the majority of the world's warmest and wettest regions have a wet bulb of no more than 25 to 27°C. In 2050, scientists estimate that it will be very difficult to live in South Asia and the Persian Gulf, i.e. countries such as Iran, Kuwait and Oman.
Annual average temperatures could climb as high as 1.6 degrees above pre-industrial levels by 2050, with the east of the country set to see the highest increase, according to a study by the Irish Centre for High-End Computing.
Ireland could see a 'cooling' of its weather due to climate change, unlike many parts of the world which are seeing rising temperatures. A new report from the Marine Institute has said Ireland is likely to experience this cooling because of a weakening of the Gulf Stream.
Temperature Trend
Ireland's climate is changing in line with global trends, with a temperature increase of, on average, 0.8°C compared with 1900. By the middle of this century (2041 – 2060) the average annual temperatures are projected to increase by between 1–1.2℃ and 1.3–1.6℃ depending on the emissions trajectory.
However, the good news is that Ireland continues to see reductions in mortality rates. The increase in life expectancy is attributed to better care of patients suffering from cancer and heart disease. Respiratory disease remains one of the main health problems posing risks to mortality.
