Having your braces removed doesn't hurt – but it may feel a little uncomfortable. It's normal to experience some light pressure as your orthodontist or oral health therapist squeezes and removes each bracket from your teeth, then again as they remove any leftover bonding glue while polishing your tooth enamel.
Teeth are always wanting to resist their new location after braces are removed. Some patients describe this mild pain as similar to the discomfort experienced when tightening braces. Rest assured, the pain will go away within a week, and sensitivity rarely persists beyond that time frame.
Don't expect to be in and out

We apply the fixed wire retainers on the day your braces come off. We take moulds/scans for removable retainers on the same day, so the retainers are ready within 24-48 hours to minimise the time teeth are unretained.
Some patients feel pressure as the brackets pop off, but there shouldn't be any pain unless you are really sad and broken-hearted about leaving your braces behind. If you think you will miss them too much, the orthodontist can even put your braces in a plastic baggie for you to keep!

Braces, whether ceramic or traditional, are not the root cause of discoloration, but poor hygiene by the wearer of the braces can lead to yellowing and stains. This has to do with how that person cared for their teeth while they were getting treatment.
One of the most common reasons is the adherence of plaque and tartar deposits on teeth, as it becomes difficult to clean them optimally around the braces. Over time, more food particle adheres to the teeth, leading to tooth discolouration and making them appear yellower.
But sometimes when the braces come off, your smile isn't quite what you expected. Discolorations and yellowing can be disappointing, but these effects are normal. Take a deep breath! There are ways to prevent yellowing so you can get the perfect smile with stunning white teeth.

If it really is the straightness of your teeth that didn't change as you were hoping, your doctor might allow you to put the brackets back on to keep straightening them. There are some occasions when your brackets simply came off too early and left you without the intended results.
