The Kraken is a dark spiced rum based on rums distilled from molasses at the Angostura Distillery (in Trinidad) that have been aged between one and two years. This is then blended with spices, including cinnamon, ginger and cloves and sweetened.

Tasting Notes. Color: The dark-brown cola color, with a ruby hue virtually opaque both in the bottle and the glass, is due to a healthy amount of caramel coloring added after distillation and done to represent the black ink spewed by the mythical Kraken sea monster.

Unopened liquor has an indefinite shelf life. Opened liquor lasts about a year or two before it goes bad, meaning it starts losing its color and flavor. Don't use a liquor for well drinks if you won't use the whole bottle within two years. It does not generally become toxic, though.
If unopened and properly stored, the flavor of your rum can hold up for over twenty years. The taste will likely have changed slightly in that time span, but it should still be good to drink. If the bottle has been opened, its aging process speeds up dramatically.
Unlike wines, distilled spirits do not improve with age once they are in the bottle. As long as they are not opened, your whiskey, brandy, rum, and the like will not change and they will certainly not mature further while they wait on the shelf.
Burn/Smooth: 5.33 – This does burn, it's a powerful rum and the sweetness hides some it, but like Goslings because it's running a little hot at 94 proof you can tell.

As a spiced rum, I give it a 6 for an overall score of 7. Spiced rum drinkers may add it to their collection for diversity for a small fee of $20, but at the end of the day it's a lightweight in comparison to other spiced rums.
What is Stronger? In the proof war, Captain Morgan edges out Kraken just slightly at 94.6 proof. For our test we began neat followed by rum and Cokes, carefully measuring both ingredients creating a fair test.
