Shoes for bigger kids start at size 1 and run up to 7, creating the confusing fact that a size 1 shoe (in big kids' sizes) is the next size up from a size 13 shoe (in little kids' sizes).
Size 1 | 12-18 Months
This size, as the name suggests, is perfect for children around the 1-year-old mark. It's intended for babies up to 18 months, weighing up to 12 kg and measuring 84 cm.
No, size 13 and size 1 are not the same. Size 13 is classed as a little kids' size, while size 1 is the next step up – or the first 'big kids'' size. These bigger sizes then go up to a size 6.
Big kids' sizes range from 10C – 13.5C for children aged 4 – 6 years, and youth sizes from 1Y – 6Y (7 – 12 years). After that, kids have to move up to men's shoes, sizes 7.5 and up, or women's, sizes 8.5 and up. See our charts here.
When converting a women's size to a kid's size you will go down a size and a half: Kid's shoes are built on a men's sizing scale. If you are a size 5 in women's, you would be a kid's 3.5. A kid's grade school size 3.5 is the same as a men's size 3.5.
In case you weren't already confused, toddler sizes work the opposite way the infant “month” sizes work! Think of toddler sizes as fitting the entire year of the corresponding age. So 2T should fit a toddler between ages 2 and 3. 3T should fit a toddler between age 3 and 4.
0-3 Months: Shoe Size 1 / 3.5” sole length. 3-6 Months: Shoe Size 2 / 3.75” sole length. 6-9 Months: Shoe Size 3/ 4.125” sole length.
Toddler shoes are sizes 4 to 7 (sometimes labeled with a “T” for “toddler”). Once a child outgrows the toddler shoe stage, they move into little kids' shoe sizes, which include sizes 8 to 13.5.
What sizes do you accept? We generally accept newborns to kids' size 14 and maternity. Check with your local store for their current inventory needs.
According to a sizing chart from Kohls, their smallest toddler size, 1-2, fits a child up to 30 lbs and 35″ tall. Usually if 1T shows up at all, it's listed as 1-2T.
Generally, kids clothes sizing is based on the age of the child at average height and weight. If you child is taller than average, we do recommend sizing up and even if your child is very thin, we also recommend sizing up for taller kids.
