The drug desmopressin (DDAVP) reduces urine production at night.
Drinking too much fluid during the evening can cause you to urinate more often during the night. Caffeine and alcohol after dinner can also lead to this problem. Other common causes of urination at night include: Infection of the bladder or urinary tract.
If you need to get up to urinate more than one time during the night, you may have an overactive bladder at night. This condition is called nocturia, and it's not the same as overactive bladder (OAB).
Vitamin C found in foods.
A study done on vitamin c intake in 2060 women, aged 30-79 years of age found that high-dose intake of vitamin c and calcium were positively associated with urinary storage or incontinence, whereas vitamin C from foods and beverages were associated with decreased urinary urgency.
Fesoterodine is an effective drug; and when compared with other medications, flexibly dosed fesoterodine has the most favourable benefit‐safety profile; The importance of a personalised approach to the management of patients with OAB.
Antimuscarinic therapy -- with or without behavioural therapy -- represents the most common treatment for patients with OAB. Several antimuscarinic agents are currently available for the treatment of OAB in adults, including oxybutynin, tolterodine, trospium chloride, darifenacin and solifenacin.
Kegel Exercises
Kegel exercises help in strengthening the muscles of the pelvic region. They are also helpful in strengthening the urinary bladder. Therefore, they can be beneficial for frequent urination, which might occur due to weakened muscles of the urinary system.
The only over-the-counter medication approved for overactive bladder (OAB) is Oxytrol for Women (oxybutynin). It's a patch that's applied to your skin, but it should only be used by women. The best prescription OAB medications are anticholinergics and beta-3 adrenergic agonists.
Magnesium. Magnesium is important for proper muscle and nerve function. Some doctors believe better magnesium levels can reduce bladder spasms, a common cause of incontinence.
Not only does OAB not go away on it's own, but the condition will likely get worse if left untreated. Over time, our muscles get weaker and the tissues of our pelvic floor grow thinner. If OAB is left untreated, it can become harder to control the urges, and leaks may be more frequent.
FIRST-LINE TREATMENTS
Behavioral therapies (e.g., bladder training, bladder-control strategies, pelvic floor muscle training, fluid management) should be offered as first-line therapy to all patients with overactive bladder. Antimuscarinic agents may be used in combination with behavioral strategies.
Does Magnesium Make You Pee Frequently? In short, there is no link between magnesium and frequent urination.
Studies have found that low vitamin D levels are linked to overactive bladder. Overactive bladder is characterized by frequent urination, incontinence, nocturia (the need to urinate more than twice per night) and sudden, intense urges to urinate.
How is overactive bladder diagnosed? In most cases OAB can be diagnosed by history and physical exam and a urine analysis to rule out infection or blood in the urine. An abnormal urine analysis may prompt treatment (if infection is found) or further testing (if blood is found).
Signs and Symptoms of Overactive Bladder
Sudden, urgent need to urinate. Difficulty holding in urine. Frequent urination (often eight times or more within 24 hours) Unintentional loss of urine with urgent need to urinate (urgency incontinence)
Stress, anxiety, and depression may actually contribute to OAB and urinary incontinence. In a study involving more than 16,000 women in Norway, having anxiety or depression symptoms at baseline was associated with a 1.5- to two-fold increase in the risk of developing urinary incontinence.
There has been shown to be a decrease in nocturnal urinary frequency after melatonin administration in those elderly patients with prior nocturia and bladder outlet obstruction [52]. In fact, it may reverse age induced bladder dysfunction.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
If you've had a UTI, you know it can make urination an urgent and painful experience. When your urinary tract is infected, bacteria causes inflammation and it can make you feel like you have to go to the bathroom more often, which you might confuse with OAB.
It takes about a week after you start Oxytrol (oxybutynin) patches (during your second patch) for the medication to reach steady levels in your system. Each patch delivers the medication slowly through your skin and into your bloodstream during the 3 or 4 days that you wear it.
