Our recommendation for baked potatoes and air fryers: pre-cook the potato in the microwave (as we did in our third test as well). Then, if you're looking for that crispy outside, sure, put it in the air fryer for a few minutes!
Slice the potatoes into thin fries and place them in a bowl of cold water for 5 minutes. Then, working in 2 batches, place the potatoes on a microwave safe plate and microwave for 3 minutes, or until they start to become slightly pliable.
What is this? You can use two methods to make great baked potatoes in the air fryer: microwave them first, then finish them in the air fryer, or air frying them for the whole duration. Either way, you'll make the best baked potatoes with crispy skin and fluffy inside.
The trick to making the fries perfectly is to blanch them first. I know this is an extra step, but it is worth it. Blanching the potato sticks for 4 minutes helps par-cook the fries to just the right stage so that the air fryer can crisp up the exterior, but keep the interior moist and tender.
Tip the chips into the bottom of an air fryer (the part with the paddle), add the oil, and toss the chips in the oil so they are evenly coated. Program the fryer to cook for 30 mins using the paddle. After this time, check that the chips are tender and cooked through. If they're not, cook for a further 5 mins.
Firstly, if your potatoes are still wet before being placed into an air fryer, this can cause your potatoes not to crispen up. You can avoid this by thoroughly patting dry your potatoes before you place them in the air fryer. Secondly, you might be putting in too many potato chips so they aren't cooking evenly.
Golden crispy chips, cooked in the air fryer so they've got a nice bit of crunch, but they're soft in the middle. No need to soak the potatoes or par-boil. Just toss the potatoes in a little cornflour, oil and seasoning and they can go right in the air fryer. Ready in 20 minutes!
Air Fryer Frozen Chips
Add the frozen chips to the air fryer basket and set off at 200C (400F) and cook for 8 to 20 minutes (depending on the size of the chips), shaking halfway through to prevent them from sticking to the basket. What is this? Pretty simple!
Oil – You can air fry chips without any oil, but I think they taste much better with at least a few sprays. You really don't need to use that much, especially if you use a spray bottle to distribute it.
Preheat the Airfryer to 160°C. Put the fries in a large bowl, drizzle with the oil and toss to coat them. Transfer them to the Airfryer basket. Slide the basket into the Airfryerand set the timer for 16 minutes.
While microwaving to completely cook the potato will result in a soft and mealy Russet, cooking in the microwave for just 5 to 6 minutes before placing in the oven keeps the potato's original texture. Drizzling with olive oil and sprinkling with salt before baking at 400 F will allow the skin to get nice and crisp.
Soaking the potatoes after they're cut draws out some of the starch which is naturally present in potatoes. This will result in a crispier fry. A thirty minute soak in cold water does the trick but you may soak them longer if you want. After soaking, be sure to dry the potatoes before you fry them.
Because microwaving can sometimes significantly lower the cooking time (five minutes instead of the 15 it would take to boil for veggies like Creamer potatoes) it can help to preserve nutrients as well as flavor!
Microwaves will turn the chips stale, thus ruining the texture. Microwaves won't brown the edges of the chips, thus ruining the flavor.
Cover a microwave safe bowl with plastic wrap and nuke the fries in the microwave for about 5 minutes if you cut the 1/4″ thick and up to 7 minutes for 1/2″ thick fries.
Too much oil and they will get soggy. Avoid overcrowding. Place the fries in a single layer, with little to no touching, so the air can reach all sides. Toss halfway.
Whenever we test out a new air fryer, French fries are the very first recipe we make. Homemade French fries won't feel like so much of a chore with this machine and might actually become a regular occurance once you get the hang of it.
For example, if you use a 1500W air fryer for an average of one hour per day, it will use roughly 1.5 kilowatts of electricity when you use it. Most air fryers use between 1.4 and 1.7kWh (kilowatts of energy per hour).
Any food with a wet batter should not be placed in the air fryer. You also want to avoid putting food that has a wet batter, like corndogs or tempura shrimp, in air fryers.
Yes, we are currently testing all our chip products. Please find the air fryer cooking instructions on each product page link below.
Preheat your oven to 230°C (conventional oven) or 210°C (fan assisted oven). Place your tray of crinkle cut chips in the centre of the oven and cook for 20 - 25 minutes. After 12 minutes toss and flip the crinkle cut chips to ensure they are evenly cooked. Remove from the oven and immediately salt and toss.
Cooking frozen food in the air fryer is faster than using your oven plus no need to defrost or thawing before cooking.
“A quick spritz will give your air fried food that nice golden color and crispy texture.” Really, that is it! A simple mist of cooking spray over the top of your food will give your favorite air fryer recipes that just-right color without adding any significant calories or fat.
By using an air fryer, you can make delicious and perfectly crispy chips without having to heat up the oven or use a lot of oil, meaning healthier chips!
Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 400°F/204°C. Place the food in the air fryer basket. Cook at 350°F/175°C for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the food is crispy to your liking and comes to temperature.
