A fresh change of clothes to wear after birth, make sure you have a nursing top you can easily breastfeed in! Maternity pads, socks, shoes and comfy undies to wear afterwards. Loose pants (you may be feeling tender all over). Toiletries so you can take a shower after birth and put on fresh clothes.
Some hospitals require you to wear the delivery gowns they provide. If your hospital doesn't have a preference, consider getting a special labor and delivery gown (with access for breastfeeding, an IV, an epidural, etc.) to maximize your comfort and confidence (much softer than a hospital gown).
Postpartum you will be most comfortable in stretchy clothes made from flexible, breathable fabrics such as cotton. Leggings, t-shirts and dresses will be the best choices to wear after giving birth. Avoid anything too tight – your favourite skinny jeans should be at the back of your wardrobe right now.
Elastic wraps.
The best kind of postpartum wrap is made of soft, elastic fabric. It should be flexible enough that you can breathe easily and move and shift. It should be long enough to comfortably wrap around your hips and your abdomen. You can buy an elastic wrap or you can use a long piece of cloth.
A robe is a must-have for your hospital bag checklist. You can put it on over your hospital gown to walk the halls during labor and it's a favorite postpartum clothing item.
Loose styles of pants are a good idea as you may be feeling sore after the birth, particularly if you had a caesarean (NHS, 2016). Big, high-waisted briefs are the way to go after caesareans as bikini styles could rub on your scar.

Small babies need little
In the hospital, blankets and onesies are typically provided. If you'd like to bring baby his/her own clothes to wear during your stay or a special outfit, please do so, but it isn't required.
Once upon a time, hospitals shaved pregnant women before delivery. Now, shaving isn't recommended at all.
Pack two different outfits in different sizes because you don't know how big or small your baby will be! Aim for one outfit in newborn size and one 0-3 months. Don't forget hats and/or socks, if weather-appropriate.
Two or three sleepsuits and vests. Disposable nappies or reusable nappies. Your newborn will go through as many as 12 in a day.
Hospitals generally will cover everything you will need to take care of your baby while you are there, so there is not need to bring a giant pack of diapers with you. Baby shampoo, diaper cream for sticky meconium poos, diapers, wipes and more are usually provided.
When Should You Pack Your Hospital Bag? You should have your hospital bag ready to go between weeks 32 and 35 of your pregnancy, in case your baby comes a bit earlier than expected. A good time to start the packing process is around the 28 week mark, or at the start of your 3rd trimester.
“There is no medical reason for shaving, it's definitely not encouraged by health professionals and the vast majority of expectant mums choose not to.” So there we have it. What do you think, were you worried about this issue before you went into labour?
If you are accustomed to using cloth pads there's no reason to think that they wouldn't work postpartum as well. Make sure to have a good stash of cloth pads with a heavy/overnight absorbency. In the first few days when bleeding is heaviest, an adult diaper may still be the best way to go.
Adult Diapers or Pads and Underwear: After you give birth, you are going to be bleeding, so you should have a pad of some kind to absorb the blood.
I highly recommend packing a velcro or zip-up swaddle in your hospital bag. L&D will provide receiving blankets and you can always ring for a nurse to help you swaddle. However, it's SO much easier not to have to do this each time you change the baby's diaper.
Personal toiletries and a bath towel: The hospital will provide these, but it will make you feel more at ease to use your own items. Aside from the usual toiletry kit like the toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, and facial wash, you can also bring hair ties, facial wipes, lip balm, and moisturizer.
You don't have to. Most people choose to wear the gown because it's easier, but you can wear your own clothes, if you prefer. Just make sure they're comfortable and can get dirty (or straight-up ruined), like a simple, cheap nightgown or a stretchy, knee-length skirt.
Bleeding often lasts for around for four to six weeks, but could last up to 12 weeks after your baby's born (RCOG, 2016). If you're worried, you can talk to a health professional. Bleeding will start off heavy and red to browny red. It will become lighter in colour and flow over time (NHS, 2021).
When the wife is pregnant, orthodox Brahmins are not expected to shave their beard. Shaving is supposed to affect the child in the womb. To ensure that no child is born in the hot month of Chitrai, efforts are taken even ten months earlier, in the month of Adi to separate the newly-married couple for a whole month.
