The more you brush your teeth, the better. However, dental experts say that there is no direct correlation between the frequency of brushing your teeth and dental health.

Risks With Only Brushing Once a Day
The longer bacteria is left on teeth, the more trouble it can cause. Some common issues associated with habitually only brushing your teeth once a day are an increased risk of: Cavities. Advanced decay that could require additional dental treatment such as a root canal.
Twice is enough for most people, but three times won't hurt!
We recommend brushing your teeth at least twice a day: once in the morning (i.e. around 30 minutes after breakfast), and once before bed! But if you want to go for three, that's no issue, just as long as you don't brush too hard or too soon after eating!

Laziness can also be the cause of no brushing attitude. People who are unconcerned or who simply are too lazy will not put in any effort into brushing their teeth daily, let alone twice a day each and every day.

Cavemen chewed on sticks to clean their teeth and even used grass stalks to pick in between their teeth. Without the availability of high-quality toothbrushes and toothpaste, however, cavemen's teeth were more susceptible to cavities and decay, even with a healthy, carbohydrate-free diet.

When you go without brushing, the bacteria in your mouth can put you at risk for tooth decay, can lead to much more serious conditions such as cavities or gum disease. Even in as little as one night, you can put your mouth at risk for developing the first stages of a cavity or gingivitis.
When it comes to our teeth, most things are irreversible. For example, our enamel once eroded won't grow back because it doesn't have living cells to repair itself. It's not a living tissue and it has no natural regeneration abilities.
After even longer without brushing or flossing your teeth, tooth decay can advance into the inner layers of your teeth, causing more enamel to be broken down and exposing the soft parts (the dentin). The tooth pulp can also become exposed, which can lead to a higher risk for tooth pain and sensitivity.
The teeth can be restored through proper cleaning each day as well as regular visits to the dentist. A dentist is able to provide proper cleanings, procedures and treatments that can help bring the teeth back to a normal state. Having healthy teeth is important so that the rest of the mouth is healthy too.
