It was believed that Grogu would eventually become a victim of Kylo Ren's destruction of Luke's Jedi Order. However, The Book of Boba Fett revealed that Grogu chose to follow the Way of the Mandalorian rather than become a Jedi, sparing him from Kylo Ren's wrath.
While fans don't know the state of Grogu's well-being in the sequel trilogy, his ties to Mandalore might explain why Kylo Ren doesn't kill him. It's likely Grogu stays with Din Djarin and the Mandalorians, and never returns to embark on his training with Luke.
Luke repeated an old Jedi Order mistake and presented Grogu with an ultimatum. The Child had to choose between Jedi training or living with Mando. Grogu chose the Mandalorian, but he could still rejoin Luke Skywalker's academy at some point. Luke was 19 years old when he began his Jedi training with Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Grogu is not in the sequel trilogy, so he must have died sometime before the beginning of Episode VII.
However Grogu was rescued by Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter where he became a foundling. Djarin was able to find a Jedi to train him and he rejoined the Jedi Order under Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.
Season two also revealed that he was in fact at the Jedi Temple during Order 66 and that a Jedi Master helped him escape. A quick glimpse of Grogu's escape was seen in The Book of Boba Fett and in the fourth episode of The Mandalorian season three, audiences finally got a glimpse of the Jedi Master who saved him.
It still seems likely Grogu will ultimately walk the same path as Tarre Vizsla, the only known Mandalorian to become a Jedi, and wind up with a foot in both camps. Still, for all that's the case, Grogu has already technically become a Jedi Knight - from a certain point of view.
Within "Star Wars" media, Grogu is the youngest known member of Yoda's species. He is one of three featured characters from this species. The other is Yaddle, the only other adult and female member of Yoda's species who appeared in "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" and "Tales of the Jedi."
Who Saved Grogu From Order 66? As depicted in "Chapter 20: The Foundling," Grogu was rescued from the attack on the Jedi Temple by Jedi Master Kelleran Beq. Beq completed the daring escape that got Grogu to safety, then escaped the attack with his life.
Some fans even hypothesized that Grogu literally was a "Baby Yoda" and represented a reincarnated form of the Jedi Master. This is impossible due to Grogu having already been born when Yoda was still alive. Thus, while the Mandalorian is Grogu's adoptive father, his actual parents remain a mystery.
While we know the simple answer is that Grogu hadn't been created yet when The Force Awakens kicked off the third Star Wars trilogy in 2015, it's an interesting question from an in-universe perspective, and one THR recently asked The Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni.
Fortunately, in The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu was permitted to choose for himself whether he wished to continue training with Luke or leave his training behind to go be with Djarin instead. He ultimately chose the latter. Grogy was reunited with Djarin in the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett.
He was not as wise or as mature as Yoda and could only do minor feats in the Force before becoming totally exhausted. There is simply no comparison between 50 year old Grogu and 900 year old Yoda in terms of Force ability.
Grogu takes big steps toward becoming a Mandalorian in the season 3 finale, but they don't all align with Star Wars tradition... Season 3 of The Mandalorian ended with the defeat of Moff Gideon and the reclamation of Mandalore.
Coupled with the fact that the only other members of his species to have been seen in Star Wars canon were also especially powerful Jedi, this may begin to explain Grogu's true significance. Grogu may be the child of Yoda and Yaddle, potentially conceived purely to help preserve their incredibly rare species.
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for The Mandalorian, season 3, episode 4. The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 "Chapter 20 - The Foundling” finally revealed how Grogu survived Order 66 and who saved him from the Jedi Temple massacre.
In true Star Wars form, though, the answer has simply raised more questions. The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 revealed Grogu was rescued by Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, a character portrayed by Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best.
More than anyone she understood the danger the Jedi faced that day. She also knew how few friends they had left on the planet. While we don't know the exact timeline of events in regards to Order 66, Padmé, and Grogu, she is the most likely person to have ordered the Naboo Royal Security Forces to help the Jedi.
Din Djarin Being Grogu's Father Is The Best Parent Reveal
While it had been hinted throughout The Mandalorian season 3 that Din Djarin had adopted Grogu as his son, the finale makes it official. In order for Grogu to move on from his status as a foundling, Din adopts him, and the Armorer gives Grogu the name Din Grogu.
Slow Aging
Grogu appears to be the youngest known member of Yoda's species. He is only 50 years old, and he is still developmentally an infant. For the whole first season of The Mandalorian™, they referred to him only as the Child.
After picking Din's gift of beskar chainmail armor, Grogu left the other option of Yoda's lightsaber in the hands of Luke. With the help of R2-D2 and Luke's X-Wing, the young Force-sensitive being was brought to Tatooine to reunite with his newfound father-figure, Din.
He has the darksaber
Din is in possession of the Darksaber, the weapon forged by the first and only Mandalorian Jedi, Tarre Vizsla. Tarre Vizsla is the only known force sensitive Mandalorian, and of course, plenty of people think Grogu is the next.
The Mandalorian season 3 will likely see Grogu embrace his path as a Mandalorian foundling, with Din teaching him about what it means to be a Mandalorian. Din Djarin now wields the Darksaber, but Grogu might be the one meant to use the Darksaber to finally unite Mandalore after years of war and tragedy.
Luke Skywalker trained Grogu in the ways of the Force, but gave him a choice: become a Jedi or return to Din Djarin to become a Mandalorian. The orphan chose the latter and accompanied Din Djarin on his new adventures in the galaxy far, far away. At the end of season 3, however, he was formally adopted by Mando.
