After getting your last Botox lip injection, you'll notice that the paralyzing effect will naturally wear off and the facial muscles will once again receive nerve signals that instruct them to contract. As the movement of the muscles returns, facial wrinkles and lines will begin reappearing.
Lip flip results are temporary and last about 8 weeks. The effect wears off quicker than other areas where Botox is injected because the amount of Botox used is necessarily small and the lip muscles are particularly active.
The lip flip is temporary, lasting about 3-4 months
If you are experimenting with lip enhancement, the lip flip allows you a low-stakes treatment, as the results will wear off in 3-4 months.
Though some lip fullness will be apparent just a few days after treatment, the majority of patients enjoy full results of the Botox lip flip injections two weeks after injection. From that point on, lip enhancement with the Botox lip flip can be repeated every 4 months to maintain these results.
A lip flip lasts for 3-4 months in most patients, but occasionally up to 6 months. Lip fillers do last longer in most patients, usually 4-6 months.
It is important to keep in mind that the Botox lip flip only lasts three to four months, and you'll need to return for treatment about two to three times as often as you would for filler injections.
Just like the loss of volume in other areas of your face, thinning lips are caused by the breakdown of fat pads underneath the skin. “There are fat pads under the skin, cushioning the muscles and bones on the face,” says board-certified dermatologist Susan Van Dyke, MD.
Getting a lip flip poses some risks, including: The effects don't last as long as lip fillers or other lip augmentations. The muscles around your lip may relax too much. You may drool, have difficulty drinking and struggle to speak if Botox injections are too close to your mouth.
The results of a lip flip are temporary. For most patients, the effects will last up to 12 weeks. You can then have another lip flip procedure immediately afterward. If you want longer-lasting results, you might want to consider a lip lift procedure (surgery) or dermal filler injections.
We recommend avoiding kissing 4+ hours after the lip flip botox treatment. For passionate kissers we recommend to wait a couple of days after the lip flip botox treatment.
My lips disappear when I smile
A thin upper lip may not help with the fact that the lip disappears, but it is quite often due to the muscles around the mouth. Some muscles might be too strong, which would cause curling of the upper lip inwards or/and lift the upper lip showing too much gum.
If you want to maintain your lip flip, you need to come in for regular treatments. If you opt for the Botox Lip Flip and filler combo, the fillers will outlast the lip flip (most lip fillers last six to 12 months). You will need to come in for a Botox touch-up between your filler treatments.
"By removing this excess upper lip skin, it everts the upper lip and gives a more youthful appearance." As this is surgical, the results are permanent. With that said, as you age your face will too — that's universal for any type of cosmetic surgery.
When the Botox effect fades away and you don't get subsequent treatments, your lips will lose their outward curl and return to their normal appearance. You may also expect to see new dynamic wrinkles or vertical lip lines since the muscles are able to move and contract again.
“For the first few days, nothing will happen. Then, slowly the lip will feel heavier, and it will be difficult to purse them together or drink from a straw. This is temporary and means the Botox is kicking in. After about 10 days it should be back to business as usual.”
With the Russian lip technique, the injections are administered vertically into the base of the lip, drawing out to the outer edge. The lips will be shaped to lift or flip the lip, rather than add excessive volume.
Most people will begin to notice a difference in the appearance of their lips several days after the procedure, as the Botox takes up to two weeks to reach full effectiveness. Over the course of the next few weeks, you may notice that your lips have more volume and definition and appear fuller than before.
The lip flip treatment and results are more subtle than a dermal lip filler, so it almost always looks natural. Lip filler, done well, almost always looks natural too, but we have all seen obvious, overdone lips; these lips have filler.
Kissing won't feel so different, as countless people can attest to. Your enhanced lips will still retain their natural softness and texture, and your partner won't be able to tell if any work has been done.
As with any surgical procedure, not everyone's smile is suitable for a lip flip – even those who may be good candidates for lip fillers. "The ideal patient is someone who has a hyperactive muscle around their mouth that causes their upper lip to turn in or pull up dramatically when they smile," Dr. Amalfi says.
It is an unfortunate fact that woman produce less collagen overall than men, which means that the thinning of the lips can happen much earlier and more drastically. While many people begin to notice the thinning in the 30s or 40s, it's not unheard of for women as young as 28 to begin noticing the process.
But there are several ways you can stimulate production or add new collagen to your lips: Get Enough Vitamin C – The body can't make collagen without vitamin C. Promote collagen production by eating lots of vitamin C-rich foods like kiwi, bell peppers, broccoli, citrus, and spinach.
Done incorrectly or performed on unsuitable patients, a Botox lip flip can easily impact the integrity of the lip structure and affect how you talk, smile, etc.
A botched lip flip can lead to a “flat” smile and a very unnatural appearance. It might last just 3 – 6 months, but that will feel like a very long time if you don't love your results.
