Prayer for Depression
Dear Lord, We pray to you for the well-being of all those people who are going through deep depression and are struggling to remain sane and composed. We urge upon you to provide them a ray of hope and be positive so that they can start leading a peaceful and happy life.
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve those challenged by serious and chronic mental and emotional illnesses. Give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that they may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Psalm 40:1-3
In this, and other Scriptures for depression, we're reminded that God is always near to the brokenhearted. No matter how deep the pit of despair you're in, God can lift you out. Just as He did for David, God can set you back on a path towards hope and He will steady you whenever you start to stumble.
LOVING GOD, YOU ARE ALWAYS NEAR TO US, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE ARE WEAK, SUFFERING AND VULNERABLE. Reach out to those who experience mental illness. Lift their burdens, calm their anxiety, and quiet their fears. Surround them with your healing presence that they may know that they are not alone.
Psalm 34:18 (NIV) reads, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." And other verses speak about the strength we can find in the Lord. Psalm 18:32 (NIV) adds, "It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure."
Psalm 55:22 (NIV)
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” This bible verse for depression calls for anyone dealing with depression to talk to God about them.
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” The Good News: Dealing with depression can be scary. But this verse reminds you that with God on your side, there's nothing to fear.
Through prayer, social support from Christian fellowship, taking suffering as a gift and blessing from God in disguise, hope that leads to courage to live and expectation for the coming of a better world, forgiveness that leads to healing of trauma, letting go to overcome loss, and love to overcome learned helplessness ...
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” John 14:27 “Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.”

The positiveness, coping, readiness to face life questions, and religiousness are often associated with improved mental health and trauma recovery. This research has prompted further studies across a wide range of disciplines to explore the positive contribution prayer can make to a person's mental health.
Findings show that praying, measured by frequency, is usually associated with lower levels of depression and anxiety.
Fill me, oh God of hope, with all joy and peace as I trust in You. Overflow me with hope by the power of Your Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13). Help me to remember my hope in You does not disappoint and through Your Spirit, You pour out Your love into my heart (Romans 5:5).
Help me not to fear the future but to boldly trust that you are in control when my emotions plunge me down, and when I am in despair. And times when I can't talk and don't know what to say, help me to “Be still, and know that you are God”. Be my comforter, my healer and bring me peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
(Psalm 34:18) Nobody knows better how we feel than God. The Lord has a special calling for the brokenhearted, for us when we feel crushed in spirit.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
1 Peter 5:7 says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” When we feel so overwhelmed by depression and fearful that it may never subside, we can remember God's word in Isaiah 41:10, “Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God.
Depression is associated with sin because people experiencing depression are seen to lack some of the spiritual fruits that are regarded as evidence of genuine Christian faith: When dealing with people in the church... some see mental illness as a weakness —a sign you don't have enough faith.
Depression is a disorder of the brain. It is a serious mental illness that is more than just a feeling of being "down in the dumps" or "blue" for a few days. For more than 20 million people in the United States who have depression, the feelings persist and can interfere with everyday life.
In due time Hannah conceived and bore a son. She named him Samuel for she said “I have asked him of the Lord”. ' In this account we learn of Hannah's great distress because of her infertility and a sufficient number of symptoms are mentioned to make a diagnosis of depression.
James 1:2-4 (NIV) “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (NIV) – Philippians 4:6-7.
Dear Lord Jesus, I come before you to ask for the restoration and healing of my mind. Thank you that you became fully human and walked amongst us, so you understand the complexities of the human brain. So I lay this mental illness before the cross.
