After your dermaplaning treatment, you need to follow a simple skincare routine for 2 weeks. Instead of using any harsh cleaning products, use a very mild cleanser to clean your face. Also, you should apply moisturizers as well as skin serums, especially those with hyaluronic acid, after the treatment.
What should I do after the treatment? Since your skin barrier will be more vulnerable after dermaplaning, always apply a nourishing and soothing moisturiser afterwards.
Aquaphor is my final go-to when I dermaplane. This ointment is more multi-purpose than you think, and it's a hidden gem for dry skin! After spritzing with Thermal Water, I slather this balm all over my skin and treat it as an overnight mask.
You'll get best results if you hold the blade at a 45-degree angle. Try to keep the strokes in a downward motion to avoid irritation. You'll see dead skin cells and hair start to accumulate as you go. Make sure not to go over any areas that are inflamed or irritated, which can cause bleeding.
After your treatment, it's important that you simplify your skincare routine and limit your regimen to one that includes gentle cleansing with a mild face wash and moisturizer. Using products with potent anti-aging ingredients like AHA's, BHA's, vitamin C, and retinol can irritate and inflame your skin.
The goal of dermaplaning aftercare is to prevent moisture loss and protect the new skin layer – without the use of harsh ingredients. Hyaluronic acid checks all the boxes and it's a great choice for dermaplaning aftercare.
Rest assured, regular dermaplaning facial treatments do not make your facial hair grow back darker or thicker.
The facial hair usually grows back 4-5 weeks after dermaplaning. You'll then need to do dermaplaning depending on your skin type and how much facial hair you have, however it's recommended to do dermaplaning every 3-4 weeks for the best results.
The most commonly recommended products for home dermaplaning are lighter oils like jojoba, squalane and rosehip seed oil, as they help create a smooth surface while being gentle on the skin.
Dermaplaning involves using a small scalpel to remove dead skin cells, peach fuzz, and dirt on the surface of your skin. You can enjoy this treatment every three to four weeks to maintain a smooth, radiant appearance.
Ideally you want to leave 5 day to a week before and after dermaplaning before you reintroduce retinol back into your daily skincare routine. If you layer retinol on the skin after dermaplaning it will lead to the skin becoming irritated, dry with flaky patches of skin and redness.
What About Stubble? "Shaving does not cause extra hair growth or make a person's face hairier, this is actually a myth."
After a dermaplane treatment, there is no healing or downtime period. The removal of the dead skin cells will not cause significant damage, and your skin will heal quickly. It is best to follow general skincare habits after the treatment to keep your fresh skin from getting damaged.
As an at-home option, you can shave your upper lip hair (a.k.a dermaplaning), which removes the hair and gently exfoliates the skin for a smooth-looking complexion.
It's a myth that your facial hair will become either thicker or darker after dermaplaning. It just isn't possible for your hair to do this, as dermaplaning is a non-invasive exfoliating treatment. The hair will grow back, but it won't change colour or thickness.
Will dermaplaning cause a stubble? Luckily, no! No need to worry. In fact, the method of hair removal has little to do with how your hair grows.
Exfoliating too aggressively or too often can leave your skin dry and irritated. Everyone's skin is different, and over time, most of us get a sense of how regularly our bodies can handle exfoliation. Oily skin, for example, can be exfoliated more often.
After dermaplaning, nourish your skin
ingredients like Centella Asiatica, plant-based non comedogenic oils, ceramides, peptides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid, as these are the best skincare ingredients to repair your skin barrier.
If you do have any areas of irritation, redness or breakouts, avoid them completely, and make sure you wash your face after you've finished. The other way to enjoy the benefits of oilplaning is to apply an oil after dermaplaning. For best results, choose a facial oil that best serve specific skin concerns.
