Age of consent in Japan
It has been 13 years since 1907 when the Penal Code of Japan set the age limit. At that time, the average life expectancy of women was 44 years, and it was common for women to marry and have children at a young age. In society at that time, 13 was regarded as a reasonable age of consent.

Live music venues in Japan are legally operated as “eating and drinking establishments,” meaning that basically everyone can enter regardless of age. Some venues have specific rules in place that, for example, bar small children for standing shows or minors for certain events.
Individuals aged 12 or younger in Japan are not legally able to consent to sexual activity, and such activity may result in prosecution for statutory rape or the equivalent local law. Japan statutory rape law is violated when an individual has consensual sexual contact with a person under age 13.
In the majority of states (34), it is 16 years of age. In the remaining states, the age of consent is either 17 or 18 years old (6 and 11 states, respectively). Note: Some states have marital exemptions. This Table assumes the two parties are not married to one another.
The age of consent is 20 in South Korea and Nepal, and is 21 in Bahrain.
It is not rude in Japan to ask someone's age. Since it determines the level of politeness one should use when addressing your conversation partner, it is usually one of the first questions Japanese will ask when meeting a new person, right after asking their name and possibly where they're from.
Unaccompanied minor service is mandatory for a child age 5-11 traveling without an adult. Children ages 12-17 years are not required to travel as unaccompanied minors, but the service is optional for this age group as well. Children under 5 years of age are not allowed to travel unless accompanied by an adult.
Niger has the lowest average age at only 14.8 years.
