But if there is still confusion, why not use the 24 hour clock and then there is no confusion what so ever because everyone should know that 00:00 is midnight and 12:00 is midday, thus 00:30 is 30 minutes past midnight and 12:30 is 30 minutes past mid-day or half twelve (as the English would say) or half past twelve in ...

In the 24-hour time notation, the day begins at midnight, 00:00 or 0:00, and the last minute of the day begins at 23:59. Where convenient, the notation 24:00 may also be used to refer to midnight at the end of a given date — that is, 24:00 of one day is the same time as 00:00 of the following day.

Converting Times from 12-hour clock to 24-Hour clock
In 24-hour (military) time, 12:00am is equal to 0000 and is read as “0 hundred hours”. 1:00am, or 0100, is pronounced as “zero 1 hundred hours”. The rest of the hours between 12:00 AM and noon on the 12-hour clock are equal to the hours between 0000hrs and 1200hrs.
0000 – Midnight and the start of the day is called "Zero hundred hours." 0100 – One a.m. is "Zero one hundred hours." 0630 – 6:30 a.m. is "Zero six-thirty," or (better) "Zero six-three-zero." 1045 – 10:45 a.m. is read or spoken as "Ten hundred forty-five" or "Ten hundred four-five."
Midnight is called 24:00 and is used to mean the end of the day and 00:00 is used to mean the beginning of the day. For example, you would say "Tuesday at 24:00" and "Wednesday at 00:00" to mean exactly the same time.
Though there is no global unanimity on the issue, most often midnight is considered the start of a new day and is associated with the hour 00:00. Even in locales with this technical resolution, however, vernacular references to midnight as the end of any given day may be common.

12.30 pm just after noon. 12.30 am is just after midnight. This makes sense, because the first is very early 'afternoon' while the second is very early morning. While we do tend to refer to midday as 12pm and midnight as 12am, strictly speaking this is illogical.
