The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, Whether he eats little or much; But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep.
Ecclesiastes 5:12 in Other Translations
12 The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
The rich man has plenty to eat but is unable to sleep. The working man has a pleasant sleep whether he eats little or much. The rich man might look on as his wealth is consumed by his entourage and servants. Spending money to produce happiness will not produce happiness, but it will dissipate wealth.
Proverb for the Day 20:13 — GET UP!!!
Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare. A common theme in Proverbs, this verse is about laziness. It's message is simple – “get up and go to work!” “Love sleep… grow poor” is a concept almost all of us understand.
The Joy of Life
We find these words in chapter 3, “I perceived that there is nothing better for [human beings] than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil — this is God's gift to man” (Ecclesiastes 3:12–13).
In Ecclesiastes, the Teacher explores the meaning of life and searches for lasting value in this life. He considers wisdom, knowledge, pleasure, work, and time, but comes away from his search with a cynical and unsettling view: life is meaningless.
But regarding anything beyond this, dear friend, go easy. There's no end to the publishing of books, and constant study wears you out so you're no good for anything else. The last and final word is this: Fear God.
Philippians 4:11–13
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
January 21, 2014. If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered. This verse speaks of a man who “shuts his ears” and doesn't listen to those who need help (“the poor”).
Difficulties are challenges to the diligent, but excuses to the slothful. Adversity means a little more effort to the diligent, but it quickly defeats the slothful. Any difficulty is enough for him to cancel his plans and quit, for the lion in the streets might slay him!
None of us are meant to journey through life alone. Whether it be a spouse, a family member, a good friend, or even a care-giver, God has placed people in our lives to help us better see His goodness and love. When we reject the help and influence of others, life takes on significant burden and hardship.
Verse 4 admonishes us to not be late in paying our vow to God. When a valid vow is made to God, its fulfillment must not be delayed. Since a vow is completely voluntary, it is better to not vow than to vow and not pay. God keeps His promises.
Ecclesiastes 6:2 tells us God has given wealth and no power to enjoy it — a stranger enjoys it. So, the person who asked this question is asking, What does this mean? What this means is that in God's providence, you can miss out on pleasure in more ways than one.
God encourages us to rest; he wants us to sleep. In fact, we're reminded to rest again and again all over the Bible.
When the Bible uses the language of “sleeping” to describe those who have died, it does not mean that they are in a state of unconsciousness. We do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep. ( 1 Thes. 4:13)
The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was. Then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel answered, "Here I am." And he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me." But Eli said, "I did not call; go back and lie down." So he went and lay down.
He who is abhorred by the LORD will fall there. a. The mouth of an immoral woman is a deep pit: The immoral woman often sets her seductive trap by the words she speaks. Therefore, her mouth is a trap leading to death.
Matthew 15:17-19 New International Version (NIV)
But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.
How you treat others is more important than your acts of faith to honour God. A scoffer is hardened in their rejection of wisdom, while the simple is more naïve an inexperienced. A simple man or woman can learn wisdom when they see the scoffer is punished.
Description. The numbers in the King James Holy Bible have significant meaning that follow the number throughout the scripture. The number 13 has always been an 'unlucky' number. The number 13 is the number that represents Satan, evil, wickedness, devils, and everything vile that is connected to them.
10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. 13 For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

13 The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
Heavenly Father, we radiate joy and happiness as Christians, because we are living in Christ with the indwelling Spirit as our Counselor and Helper and we have the promise of eternal life, as children of God who have been chosen and called to follow Christ.
