Remember these are just ideas, always choose clothing that is true to your style and makes you feel confident. Don't wear glitter makeup or too much lip gloss. This type of makeup can make you look like you're sweaty, crying, or drooling in photographs. Guys stay away from tank tops.
You want an outfit you feel comfortable and “yourself” in – this will show through in the picture. Instead of buying something new, go for something you love and showcases your personality. Style your look from top to bottom, including shoes and any jewelry (or props), so you know you're not missing anything.
Generally, don't choose any neon colors for photos. Bright orange, bright pink, neon yelllow, or neon green can put color casts on skin and will not photograph well.
Warm Tones
Some great colors to wear for photos are oranges, reds, golds, magenta, and turquoise. Most of these are earth-like tones.
For your casual outfit, think about wearing jeans or shorts with a cute top! You could wear your favorite pair of jeans/shorts, some jeans that have a design embroidered on them, jeans that have patches, ripped jeans, or jeans that have two different washes on them!
Tip 1: Keep your skin looking natural.
You should be good to go with just a touch of powder or blush. If you're a regular foundation user, pull out a foundation that makes your skin look as natural as possible. No cakey foundation here, please.
Finger & Toe Nails
Avoid bright colors that will distract from you and may not work with all your outfits. Instead, opt for basic or natural tones.
The white french manicure is perfect for senior pictures because it is classic and makes your hands look good without taking attention away from your gorgeous face. Other color that look amazing are light neutral tones, light pinks and very subtle neutral toned sparkle.
We recommend bringing at least two outfits. Most senior girls change into three or four outfits during their session. Select a wardrobe that can be coordinated together (for example, pants that look good with two or three different shirts, etc.). Watch out for bra straps that might be hanging out.
Neutral colors are great to incorporate into your senior portrait outfits. Black, white, grey, ivory and shades of khaki or brown can be so powerful in your portraits.
Solid colors tend to photograph well, so consider wearing outfits in shades that complement your skin tone. Avoid clothes with large patterns or logos as they can be distracting and take away from the focus of the photo, which is you. Consider wearing layers, as they can add depth and dimension to your photos.
These images give both you and your parents something to look back on in the years to come, as well as a way to share your excitement with friends and family about your accomplishments and the big changes to come in your life.
For graduation photos, the gown does not cover casual clothes like t-shirts. Guys traditionally wear a shirt & tie, and ladies usually bring a tank top or other low-collar shirt that won't show. If you are non-binary or want to try your own look that's no problem - what you wear is up to you!
Do Formal if it's His Thing (or Mom's) Wear dark denim jeans and pair it either a crew neck sweater or a classic overcoat. Sport a navy or black pair of pants with a button up shirt. The tie is always optional.
"Sit straight, and find a slight 3/4 turn of your head in one direction and slightly tuck your chin down, rather than a straight-on headshot," says photographer Kathryn Wirsing. You want to try to stick your face outwards and point your chin down at the same time to get the most flattering angle.
In photography, there is a concept called the “golden hour” which is the hour or two just before sunset or just after sunrise. At those times, the sun is low in the sky and creates beautiful warm light that is perfect for senior portraits.
Black never fails to make you look slim and elegant. Darker shades of colors like blue, purple and brown can also help to hide flaws and create a slimming illusion. On the other hand, lighter colors, like white and khaki, can add pounds and give the illusion of a larger frame.
Blush. The most flattering shades for everyone are colors that are neutral like millennial pink, or blush. Not only does it flatter all skin tones, but it gives you that #glow no matter who you are and pairs well with everything!
Thus, the most attractive color is blue, the second most preferred is red, followed by green, while yellow was found to be the least preferred color (Figure 1).
The rule of 3 colors is simple: pick one primary color. Then, pick two other complementary colors. See the example below. We picked a main hue (a variation red), and complemented it with two different colors.
