Her sacrifice gave Harry the power of love, a protection spell sealed with the blood spilled by her death.
Lily Potter sacrificed her life in order to protect her infant son, Harry from Lord Voldemort. This placed Harry under magical protection, so that when Voldemort cast the Killing Curse at Harry in turn, the spell backfired, leaving him unharmed (save for a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead) and Voldemort bodiless.
Protego Horribilis protects against dark magic, and in J.K. Rowling's books, it's used to protect Hogwarts against invaders.
"... have mercy..."
Lily's last words were an ardent request to the Dark Lord to let her little boy live. As the books reveal by and by, the fact that she made the ultimate sacrifice for her son sealed Harry with her love, a form of old magic that proved powerful enough to keep him safe in years to come.
Voldemort intentionally made six Horcruxes, but when he used Avada Kedavra on Harry, he unintentionally created a seventh Horcrux. Instead of dying, Lily's love for Harry created a counter 'curse' known as Sacrificial Protection and saved Harry.
Though Harry encountered many opportunities that deemed Avada Kedavra necessary, it remains as one of the Unforgivable Curses Harry Potter never cast. For one, he viewed the spell as an immoral practice commonly used by users of the Dark Arts.
Draco Malfoy's mother Narcissa was cold, cunning and devoted to the Dark Lord. But she was also a mother, which meant she was willing to risk everything to make sure her son was safe. When Harry survived Voldemort's Killing Curse for the second time, Narcissa pretended he was dead so she could get to Draco.
Dumbledore's last line is very similar in the final book and movie. He tells Harry in the film, "Of course it's happening inside your head, Harry. Why should that mean it's not real?"
Why have we never considered this before? Both Lily and James Potter were killed by Voldemort aged 21 at Godric's Hollow on 31 October 1981, when Harry was just 1 year old, And the rest of the story, you no doubt know.
Even though Snape's goal was to protect Lily, he ultimately saved Harry and set off the chain of events that would eventually lead to Voldemort's end.
Avada Kedavra
Topping the list for the most powerful spells in the Harry Potter universe is no other than Avada Kedavra, Voldemort's favorite to instill his will and fear onto others. The spell itself is a play on Abra Kadabra and is easy to cast by just about anyone in the Wizarding World.
Some would say there's no spell worse than Avada Kedavra, the Killing Curse that Voldemort used so indiscriminately. But it's definitely not the wizarding world's only Unforgivable Curse.
Roughly translated, Expelliarmus – the Disarming Charm – means 'to drive out a weapon' and that's what it does: forces the subject to drop whatever they're holding. Usually that's a wand, which is why it's often seen in duels, and Harry definitely took that to heart, given how much he used it in combat.
History Of Avada Kedavra
The Killing Curse was created in the early Middle Ages by Dark witches and wizards. Primarily, the curse was used to quickly slay opponents during a duel.
The fact that Lily chose James Potter, Harry's father, only fuels Snape's hostility towards Harry.
She could have lived. In dying, Lily set the path for Voldemort's downfall. Her sacrifice gave Harry the power of love, a protection spell sealed with the blood spilled by her death.
Now, as firmly established, Snape was not the greatest fan of Harry, but that didn't mean that he ever stopped loving Lily. Dumbledore was surprised that Snape seemed to care for the boy. With a swish of his wand, Snape conjured up a Patronus – Lily's Patronus, a doe. 'Always,' he said.
Snape's love for Lily fed his hatred for James, and meant he would stop at nothing ' even arranging the murder of her child ' to possess Lily. Lily's life would be spared in return for Snape giving information of the prophesy to Lord Voldemort.
According to the author, Severus Snape's birthday is 9 January 1960 and he died on 2 May 1998 at the age of 38.
In the [Deathly Hallows] book, Snape's dying words to Harry were "Look at me". Right then we did not realize the significance of his words but in the very next chapter when Harry goes through Snape's memories in the Pensieve, he comes to know how much Snape loved Lily.

"Wands out, d'you reckon?" Before Robert Pattinson was an undead vampire, he was a golden boy wizard killed by a Voldemort henchman. His death proved one thing: that Voldemort wasn't messing around. Photo: Warner Bros.
Narcissa's greatest moment, however, was when she chose to betray Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Not knowing whether Draco was alive or dead, Narcissa chose to lie to the Dark Lord rather than risk losing her son.
Draco's refusal to reveal Harry's identity to Bellatrix was not because he liked him. It was because he believed that Harry was the only chance they had at defeating Voldemort. At first, Draco admired and revered Voldemort until he threatened his family's safety.
In Cursed Child – Part Two, Draco Malfoy explains to Harry that his wife, Astoria Greengrass, was sick for many years. Draco says she suffers from a “blood malediction,” which ultimately ends up killing her the summer before Scorpius's third year.
