RESTAVIT™ is a white biconvex tablet with a break bar on one side. Active ingredients: doxylamine succinate: 25mg per tablet.
Some antihistamines (for example, Restavit or doxylamine), can make you drowsy and can be used to help relieve insomnia. Use these only in the short term (for a few days at a time) to re-establish regular sleep patterns.
Do not take RESTAVIT™ if you are taking any of the following medicines as they may interfere with each other: antidepressant medicines known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). These include moclobemide (Arima, Aurorix), phenelzine (Nardil) and tranylcypromine (Parnate)
They start to work fairly quickly. You should start to feel tired soon after taking them. This can often be within 15 minutes.
Also, in the longer term they can cause significant weight gain and have metabolic effects that can increase the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
These are the more common side effects of RESTAVIT™. Suvorexant is the first orexin receptor antagonist to be marketed in Australia. The drug is taken within 30 minutes of bedtime. This should be at least seven hours before the patient plans to get up again. The maximum drug concentration is reached in two hours.
Drowsiness, dizziness, headache, constipation, stomach upset, blurred vision, decreased coordination, or dry mouth/nose/throat may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

One study of older adults with insomnia found that magnesium supplementation at a dose of 500 milligrams daily for eight weeks helped them fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, reduced nighttime awakenings, and increased their levels of naturally circulating melatonin.
