The most powerful pain relievers are opioids. They are very effective, but they can sometimes have serious side effects. There is also a risk of addiction.
Panadeine and Panadeine Forte: These drugs are a combination of paracetamol (Panadol 500mg) and codeine. Panadeine has approximately 15mg of codeine per tablet and Panadeine Forte has 30mg of codeine per tablet. Codeine is a narcotic analgesic which will provide stronger pain relief.
Choosing the Right Pain Relief for You
Panadol products contain paracetamol; do not take them with other medicines that also contain paracetamol. Paracetamol is in many medicines to treat pain, fever, symptoms of cold and flu, and sleep medicines.
Panadol extra advance tablets have been specially formulated to allow the paracetamol to be absorbed into the bloodstream faster than standard paracetamol tablets or capsules. Panadol extra soluble tablets are also absorbed faster.

Panadol Rapid is absorbed 2x faster than standard Panadol tablets. It contains sodium bicarbonate, which is added to paracetamol.
They come in different strengths: tablet – 500mg or 1g. capsule – 500mg. syrup you swallow (oral solution) – 120mg, 250mg or 500mg in 5ml.
Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Take 2 caplets every four to six hours as needed. Do not take more than 8 caplets in 24 hours. Children under 12 years: Not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Swallow with water or other fluid.
Inform people about adverse effects that may occur with higher doses of caffeine, including toxic symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, gastrointestinal symptoms, increased heart rate and blood pressure, diuresis and dehydration.
Paracetamol should start to work within an hour and the effect usually lasts several hours. Don't take more than the recommended dose if it isn't relieving your symptoms. Adults can take ibuprofen at the same time if necessary, but this isn't usually recommended for children.

The important thing to remember is that each co-codamol or co- dydramol tablet has the same amount of paracetamol (500mg) as one ordinary paracetamol tablet or caplet. Taking both kinds of tablets can give you better control of your pain. It can also help to reduce or manage side effects.

Tramadol has a place in pain management for selected patients who have not responded to simple analgesics such as paracetamol or aspirin and in whom NSAIDs are contraindicated. For most patients, a combination of paracetamol and codeine will be equally effective and possibly better tolerated than tramadol.
Opioids include medicines like morphine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and codeine. They are most often used for acute pain and may be given right after surgery. These medicines can be safely used for short periods.
Official answer. Both tramadol and codeine are prescription painkillers, and they seem to be equally effective in terms of pain relief. There is no evidence that tramadol is any stronger than codeine at relieving pain. Codeine is an opiate medicine and tramadol is a synthetic (man-made) opioid.
It's safe to take ibuprofen with paracetamol or codeine. But do not take ibuprofen with similar painkillers like aspirin or naproxen without talking to a pharmacist or doctor. Ibuprofen, aspirin and naproxen belong to the same group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
