Bernard Elf is Santa's Chief Elf. He pretty much oversees all the other elves at Santa's Village. Many of the elves at the North Pole call him "Big B" which, he doesn't mind; just don't call him Bernie. Bernard the Elf Is Back
Krumholtz's return as Bernard was first announced in July 2022. The actor originated the role of Santa's Head Elf in 1994's The Santa Clause.
The illustrated book enclosed with each Elf on the Shelf doll explains that elves are assigned to homes (or sometimes classrooms) with the explicit charge of observing children's actions all day on behalf of Santa Claus, who is referred to as “the boss”.

The original elves
