Harald Sigurdsson (Old Norse: Haraldr Sigurðarson; c. 1015 – 25 September 1066), also known as Harald III of Norway and given the epithet Hardrada (harðráði; modern Norwegian: Hardråde, roughly translated as "stern counsel" or "hard ruler") in the sagas, was King of Norway from 1046 to 1066.
Jarl Borg is one of the main antagonists in the History Channel's show Vikings.
The King in Vikings & Legacy
In the TV series Vikings, Egbert is seen granting land to Viking settlers he will later betray, sending Aethelwulf to slaughter the Viking settlement, and later granting land to other Vikings when he has earlier secretly abdicated rule to Aethelwulf.
For Viking-based villains, we have: Earl Haraldson—He did not want Ragnar traveling to the West to raid. Ragnar did so regardless and incurred Haraldson's wrath. King Horik—If I recall, King Horik thought Ragnar was too ambitious a man, and thus wanted him out of the situation.
Erik the Red. Perhaps the epitome of the archetypal bloodthirsty Viking, Erik the Red violently murdered his way through life. Born in Norway, Erik gained his nickname most likely due to the colour of his hair and beard but it could also reflect upon his violent nature.
After Bjorn takes the crown, he's visited by the Seer and told of his future. “No one will ever forget the name of Bjorn Ironside, greater than Ragnar,” the Seer says.
Ragnar Lothbrok
There are so many Rise & Fall tales in the movie and TV landscape but Ragnar's journey is a more interesting one because of the multiple arcs he is granted. Despite only lasting 4 seasons, no other Viking enjoys better character development than Ragnar.
He is cunning, malicious, ruthless, complicated, and at times, still incredibly empathetic, and his personality easily makes him one of TV's best villains of the last decade. Ivar's list of sins tends to mask his good traits too. It often feels like he is totally detestable but that's hardly the case.
1 Leif Erickson
Leif Erickson crowns this list as Viking: Valhalla's strongest fighter. Yet more proof of the toughness of Greenlanders, Leif shows his mettle as a warrior from the word 'go'.
Ivar becomes king over north-eastern England which his forefathers had owned (i.e. Ivar Vidfamne and Sigurd Ring), and he has two sons, Yngvar and Husto.
Harald Against Bjorn
When Olaf took him prisoner, Bjorn came to his aid at a great cost to himself and his men. The least Harald could do was be loyal to Bjorn. Harald instead went back to his old self and planned to kill Bjorn at the time when Norway badly needed to be united.
Vikings saw many strong friendships over the course of six seasons, and one that became very popular with the audience was that between Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård), but at one point, Floki felt betrayed by Ragnar, and he had strong reasons for that.
And if his death has disappointed many fans, it's still one of the most emblematic moments of the TV series. Ivar made a surprising decision in the Vikings series finale, sacrificing himself in order to save the life of his brother Hvitserk. He is then killed by a Wessex soldier during the show's last epic battle.
There is no love lost between the two of them, as we see ever so clearly when Ragnar finally drags himself from bed. Then there is Floki, the once beloved shipbuilder turned traitor and murderer. Bjorn surprises everyone when he has Floki arrested for the murder of Athelstan.
While Hirst definitely considered killing off Floki, he relented as the pagan fundamentalist had been an integral part of the series as Ragnar's best friend. Since the Viking had always been a fan favorite, show creators were keen on bringing him back after his little cave accident/volcanic eruption.
No matter how brilliant a tactician Ivar the Boneless was, there's little doubt that Bjorn was a better overall fighter - it's even in his name, as he was dubbed 'Ironside' due to his seeming inability to be killed or harmed in battle.
As the oldest son of Ragnar and the only surviving child of Ragnar and the famous shield-maiden Lagertha, Bjorn already has the makings of a great warrior. Both of his parents are well-known for their actions during battle, and their leadership outside it.
Ivar remains a local king in England for a long time after, ruling from York but having no children to succeed him, 'because of the way he was: with no lust or love' (4).
Ragnar Lodbrok is considered to be the most famous Viking by many historians and the wider public. This is largely because of his lead role in the History Channel show, Vikings. However, he also had a prominent role in many Viking sagas that detailed his raids on what is now France and England.
Lagertha, according to legend, was a Viking ruler and shield-maiden from what is now Norway, and the onetime wife of the famous Viking Ragnar Lodbrok.
One of Ragnar's most loyal companions, Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard), responds to Athelstan with bitterness, skepticism, and hatred.
Ivar The Boneless
He had to work harder than the rest of Ragnar's sons to become the powerful man he was but when he finally learned, he became the best.
Fans feel Ubbe is Ragnar's best son
Many Vikings fans on Reddit believe that Ubbe, Ragnar's first son with Aslaug, is his best son because he has all of Ragnar's best attributes and few of his worst.
Bjorn achieved everything Ragnar hoped to achieve and even more, making him the first true king of all Norway. He was a wise leader, having been taught by the best, from Athelstan to Lagertha.
