Klaus is one of, if not the best, villain on The Vampire Diaries. He is a hybrid vampire-werewolf who loves his family in the most unusual of ways, as he stakes them and keeps them in coffins to "protect" them.

Damon is the older brother and initially presents himself as the bad boy. He's the more impulsive of the two and often makes decisions without considering their deadly consequences. Throughout the series, while Damon is often the troublemaker,...
The Vampire Diaries begins with Damon being one of the most prominent antagonists. However, he does have a plan for his return to Mystic Falls outside of wishing to cause chaos.
Finding The Salvatore Bloodline
This proves her to be the true villain as she only cares for her own wants and needs, and will allow her friend to die in order to get her way. Elena is also aware that many other innocent vampires will die if she is to kill an original.
Klaus is far more powerful than Silas because he's physically the second most powerful thing walking the planet (behind the Beast of the prophecy). Silas wasn't even as strong as a vampire, he's barely stronger than a human.
Despite this Stefan ends up making the ultimate sacrifice when Katherine Pierce tries to destroy Mystic Falls with hellfire, killing both of them after he gives Damon the cure so that he can live a happy human life.
Damon Salvatore joined the army, and Stefan was left to live with his father for a couple of months. Once Damon came back, the two were turned into vampires in 1864, in the town of Mystic Falls at the age of 17, by Katerina Petrova, who both brothers loved immensely.
After becoming a vampire, he became vengeful when Katherine chose Stefan over him. Promising his brother eternal misery, Damon would follow him, and see his brother deal with his blood lust. The main antagonist of Season 1, Damon would later redeem himself.
The age difference between the two is too minor to make much of a difference. The more decisive element is that Elena has had some combat training from Alaric and Damon. Caroline is actually Stronger, but Elena was trained to kill vampires as a human.
Damon's ability to drink human blood gives him more vital senses of strength, speed, compulsion, and other vampire tricks that do not work as well for Stefan due to the lack of human blood he consumes. Stefan admits that he is not as strong as Damon and thus would not be able to win in a fight.
The mystery of the Mystic Falls serial killer was finally solved, resulting in one of the most shocking moments in the series' history. Alaric was the one killing off the council members. He killed Meredith's jerk of an ex-boyfriend, Caroline's father, and ironically, he nearly killed himself.
She met a vampire, Damon Salvatore, who turned her into a vampire at her request. During her time as a vampire she adapted a highly hedonistic and emotionless nature, using humans as blood sources and even using compulsion to make them her sex slaves.
